Last year, the new co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios, Gunn & Safran, revealed plans to transition from DCEU to the newly named “DCU” and reboot the cinematic universe. They introduced the initial lineup of movies for the first chapter called ‘Gods & Monsters,’ which includes ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.’

Not much is known about the movie except that it’s adapted from Tom King’s comic book series ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ illustrated by Bilquis Evely, and the screenplay was written by Ana Nogueira. It’s considered one of the most intriguing ‘Supergirl’ stories so far. Recently, it was announced that Milly Alcock, known for her role in ‘House of the Dragon,’ will portray Supergirl, and now it appears the movie may have found its director.

According to Deadline, Craig Gillespie, known for his diverse directing portfolio including ‘Lars and the Real Girl,’ ‘I, Tonya,’ and ‘Cruella,’ is in discussions to direct ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.’ Recently, James Gunn confirmed the completion of the script for ‘Supergirl.’ DC intends to film the movie in the fourth quarter after ‘Superman,’ set for release on July 11, 2025. The film will be produced by DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran, with Chantal Nong as executive producer.

Gunn has already stated that the Supergirl we’ll see on the big screen will be a fresh interpretation compared to the one we’re familiar with.

We see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.

‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ does not yet have a confirmed release date. Have any thoughts to share? Feel free to comment below!
