‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 Will Be Action-Packed, Says Executive Producer Sana Amanat

Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again has brought fans back into the gritty world of Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. The two characters have been trying to leave their dark pasts behind — but it hasn’t been easy. As the season nears its end, things explode with a dramatic showdown at Mayor Fisk’s fancy inaugural ball.

In Episode 8, Matt faces Vanessa Fisk (Ayelet Zurer) about her part in Foggy Nelson’s death. Just as things heat up, Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) arrives and chaos breaks out. Matt ends up taking a bullet meant for Fisk.

Executive producer Sana Amanat talked with Marvel.com about all the drama, and what fans can expect in Season 2.

“It’s been really thrilling,” Amanat said. “Episode 8 in particular is a marker of what we wanted to do with the show… I was really happy with the ways the fans got it, and I’m excited to see what they think of the finale.

One of the most unique parts of Episode 8 was the face-off between Matt and Fisk at a glamorous ball. “Dario [Scardapane] was like, ‘Two words: ballroom dance.’ And I was like, ‘I’m in,’” Amanat laughed. “It was definitely a dance — a literal dance, but also a figurative dance… It was super fun and super tricky.”

Amanat also explained that Daredevil and Kingpin are deeply connected, even when they try to change. “These two characters are two sides of the same coin… They have some strange, magnetic, toxic pull toward one another,” she said. “Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk are so layered and complex… their addiction to violence and darkness feels somewhat similar.

Another major part of the season is the deeper look at Fisk’s wife, Vanessa. Episode 8 reveals that she ordered the hit on Foggy Nelson. Amanat found her character fascinating. “What kind of woman decides to be with a man like this? That’s what we wanted to explore,” she said. “They’re dark souls… But there’s real love there, and that is such a fascinating contrast.”

Fans also met some new faces this season. Cole North, played by Jeremy Isaiah Earl, comes from the comics — but with a twist. “There are definitely some big revelations with that character… We feel like there’s a lot more story to tell with that character,” Amanat teased.

And then there’s Muse — a creepy and dangerous villain. “Muse is very scary… He’s a strange fella with some strange obsessions!” she said. “Matt put the suit away, and look at what happened to New York: He ended up letting a serial killer do what he did.

Muse fits into one of the big ideas of the season: masks and identity. Is Matt really Matt without being Daredevil? Is Fisk just the Mayor, or still the Kingpin?

There are also some cool hidden details throughout the season.

“I obviously loved the Ms. Marvel reference, of course. And all of the Bullseye nods, like the tooth,” Amanat said. “There’s a very cool moment at the top of Episode 9… it has to do with Bullseye.

As for Season 2? It’s already in the works — and it’s full of action. “We’ve been shooting a lot of crazy sequences. The crew is crushing it, and the action is nonstop,” she said. “We shot a really big sequence with Wilson Fisk this week, and I felt like a kid in a candy shop.”

Amanat says they learned a lot from Season 1, especially about trusting the talented cast. “You just have to trust them… The last two episodes were really about serving the fans and ourselves,” she said. “And Season 2 will hopefully be even more fun.
