‘Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell’ Will See an Older and Virtually Powerless Matt Murdock (on Sale April 2)

Get ready for a fresh take on a classic Marvel hero. This April, an older, worn-out Matt Murdock steps back into the spotlight in a new comic series called ‘Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell’. It’s hitting shelves on April 2, and it promises a darker, grittier story for the Man Without Fear.
Matt Murdock, the blind lawyer who once fought crime as Daredevil, isn’t the same guy we’re used to. In this three-issue limited series, he’s aged, beaten down by time, and stripped of his powers. The story drops us into a future where the Marvel Universe is crumbling, and heroes like Matt have faded away. He’s no longer swinging across rooftops or taking down thugs with his radar senses. Instead, he’s just a man trying to do good in a broken world, powerless but still driven by that same old fire.
Things change fast, though. A sudden disaster flips the script, bringing Matt’s enhanced senses back online. It’s a chance to suit up as Daredevil again, even if he’s not as spry as he once was. This isn’t the Hell’s Kitchen we know from the Netflix show ‘Daredevil’ or even his usual comic runs. It’s a harsher place, and Matt’s got no backup. But when Captain America hands him a mission to protect the last shred of hope for this ruined world, he can’t say no. It’s a lone fight against the darkness creeping into every corner.
The creative team behind this is no joke. Charles Soule, who wrote some killer Daredevil stories back in 2015, is teaming up with Steve McNiven, the artist who gave us ‘Old Man Logan’. That Wolverine tale showed an older, broken hero in a messed-up future, and now they’re doing the same for Matt. Soule’s past work even inspired parts of the upcoming ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ TV series, like the villain Muse and Wilson Fisk’s rise to mayor. McNiven’s art, meanwhile, has a knack for making these worn-out heroes feel real and raw.
I’m excited to see how this plays out. Matt’s always been about pushing through pain—whether it’s his blindness, his guilt, or the beatings he takes. Now, we get to watch him tackle old age and a world that’s moved on without him. His powers coming back sounds like a lifeline, but it’s also a ticking clock. How long can an older Matt keep this up? And with no allies, it’s all on him to pull this off.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Matt Murdock age up in the comics. ‘Daredevil: End of Days’ showed him dying at Bullseye’s hands, kicking off a whole mystery. But ‘Cold Day in Hell’ feels different—it’s got that ‘Old Man Logan’ vibe, where the hero’s past glory is just a memory until something drags him back in. Charlie Cox, who plays Matt in the Netflix series and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, has talked about how the character’s fear and grit make him human. I bet we’ll see plenty of that here.
Mark your calendars for April 2. ‘Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell’ is shaping up to be a brutal, personal story about a guy who never quits, even when the odds are stacked against him. Whether you know Matt from the screen or the page, this one’s worth checking out.
