David Corenswet Shares Insights on His ‘Superman’ Diet and the Significance of Bulking Up: “I just wanted to be bigger”
2025 is shaping up to be an exhilarating year for DC Studios. Although ‘Creature Commandos’ is scheduled for release this December, both Gunn and Safran have emphasized that ‘Superman’ will mark the official beginning of the DCU.
This new cinematic universe introduces a fresh face for Superman. While many fans were upset by Cavill’s departure from the role of the Man of Steel, the first images of Corenswet’s impressive transformation into a superhero swiftly silenced the naysayers.
In a recent interview on the ‘Manly Things (Sort Of)’ podcast, Corenswet discussed his past roles and shared his experiences with bulking up, particularly for the TV series ‘Hollywood.’
The actor revealed that he had very limited time to bulk up and relied on nutritional missteps to gain size quickly.
I just wanted to be bigger. I think I was about to do Hollywood in 2019, or yeah, right before I left it would have been Hollywood…I had a month before we started shooting, so I was doing everything I could in that month, which wasn’t going to be very much.
Greek yogurt on top! I mean, that was before I understood what eating was. I thought that I was trying to eat a lot of food back in 2019 when I was trying to get from like 190 to 195.
Now, Corenswet’s transformation into Superman was primarily achieved in a professional environment by following the proper protocols. His personal trainer, Paolo Mascitti, disclosed that the actor consumed an incredible number of calories each day.
He was on around 6,000 calories a day and his diet was strict, but not as strict as I would have liked.
In the podcast, he discussed his diet, describing it as a “normal person setting” consisting of three meals a day along with protein shakes. He also mentioned enjoying a carton of Greek yogurt as a bedtime snack.
Corenswet added that there was a time when he couldn’t fit into any of his pants.
I wasn’t 238 (pounds) when we started shooting. I was 238 at my max. I didn’t fit into any of my pants.
Regardless, we are eager to see Corenswet take on the role of Superman, and we’ll have the chance to do so soon, as the movie is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
