Demon Slayer: Here’s How Many Hashira Kokushibo Killed!

The Demons of Demon Slayer are a truly fascinating lot. They come in all shapes and sizes, and while they are evil in their demonic form, their backstories and their lives while they were human usually contain a very tragic note that makes you feel sad for them. But, there are also exceptions, and one such exception is the protagonist of this article – Kokushibo. The Upper-Rank One of the Twelve Kizuki, Kokushibo was the second strongest Demon in the whole lore, behind only Muzan, and while we have already written about how Kokushibo was killed, in this article, we are going to tell you how many Hashira Kokushibo killed.
Kokushibo killed numerous Hashira since the Sengoku era (around 300 years before the plot), and the exact number is unknown, but it could very well be a three-digit one. Regarding the manga, we’ve only seen Kokushibo killing one Hashira. Muichiro Tokito, the Mist Hashira, and his relative, who died while fighting him. Contrary to popular opinion, he did not kill Yoriichi, as Yoriichi died of old age; he simply mutilated his corpse.
The remainder of this article will give you a detailed overview of Kokushibo’s kill count against the Hashira, as it happened on the pages of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga. We’ve already given you an answer to the question and will now expand on it in our text. Be careful, though, as the article will contain many spoilers, so if you don’t know all the details, be careful how you approach the text.
Kokushibo’s exact kill count is unknown, but it is high
Muzan’s most powerful subordinate with the title of Upper-Rank One, Kokushibo, was originally a demon slayer named Michikatsu Tsugikuni and Yoriichi’s older brother. Envious of his brother’s talent, he eventually joined Muzan as a demon to perfect his techniques as a swordsman without worrying about dying of disease or old age. His fighting style was Moon Breathing, which was directly derived from Yoriichi’s Sun Breathing. His sword was part of his body, so he could regenerate and change shape at will.
It was revealed that as a human, Kokushibo harbored an immense sense of envy towards his younger twin brother, Yoriichi Tsugikuni, for his natural talent and incredible abilities. These feelings of jealousy and contempt grew stronger when he saw his brother grow into an old man despite Yoriichi awakening his demon slayer mark, which was supposed to doom him to die at the age of 25.
After the twins became Hashira, they continued his pursuit of Demons. Michikatsu’s brother, Yoriichi, soon came into contact with Muzan Kibutsuji, the Slayers’ mortal foe and ancestral demon, and made the decision to murder him. Yoriichi discovered that Muzan had five moving brains and seven moving hearts inside of him. When he realized his good fortune, he united all of his forms into a single attack, cutting them all off and thoroughly outclassing Muzan.
Muzan would ultimately succeed in escaping, but the conflict left her deeply traumatized and terrified of Yoriichi. After failing to kill Muzan, he met Tamayo, another demon, and believed her story about wanting to end Muzan, so he let her go free. Upon his return to the Corps, he found out that his brother, Michikatsu, had betrayed the Corps, killed the Oyakata, and deflected. Michikatsu was afraid that he would die at age 25 and was envious of his brother, which is why he joined Muzan – becoming a Demon could prolong his life and give him additional power to defeat his brother.
And while he was right about the first part, he was not right about the second. Kokushibo faced Yoriichi on the day of his death. Being more powerful compared to his now-old and blind brother, Kokushibo thought it would be easy, but Yoriichi was still more powerful and sliced his neck so fast that Kokushibo couldn’t even draw his sword.
And while Yoriichi did die during the battle, he simply died of old age while standing on his feet, so Kokushibo never really had the chance to even draw his weapon. Contrary to what most fans believe, Kokushibo did not kill Yoriichi, who died of old age. He simply mutilated his corpse.
What happened later? Well, Kokushibo’s kill count rose as the years passed. During the Sengoku era, the Twelve Kizuki were not a formally established organization, so Kokushibo probably just traveled the land, killing Demon Slayers as he wished. Three hundred years passed between Yoriichi’s death and the present timeline of the manga, which means that Kokushibo probably killed thousands of Demon Slayers and probably hundreds of Hashira. The exact number is not known, it was never revealed, but simple logic dictates that the number probably has three digits, if not more.
Muichiro is the only Hashira killed by Kokushibo in the manga
And while the total number is certainly horribly high, the manga has shown only one of Kokushibo’s victims: Muichiro Tokito, the Mist Hashira. The two of them were actually relatives, and they both perished during Kokushibo’s final fight against the Demon Slayer Corps. This is what happened.
In the final battle, he faced Muichiro Tokito, Genya Shinazugawa, Sanemi Shinazugawa, and Gyomei Himejima. The conflict began when Kokushibo and Muichiro Tokito were taken to the same room inside Infinity Castle. After a few altercations, Kokushibo succeeds in amputating Muichiro’s arm. Kokushibo is highly impressed when Muichiro rapidly tightens his arm to halt the bleeding. However, Kokushibo impales Muichiro using his own sword, placing him in a terrible situation.
The option to turn into a Muzan-supporting demon is subsequently presented to Muichiro by Kokushibo. Genya, however, fires his firearm, ending their conversation. After deftly dodging the gunshot, Kokushibo reappears behind Genya and severs his arms and torso in half.
However, he recognizes that Genya is unique and decides to kill him by chopping off his head. His brother rescues Genya before he has the chance to do so. Kokushibo is mildly surprised by the Wind Hashira’s abilities as Sanemi and Kokushibo start their fierce combat. After some struggle, Kokushibo was poised to deliver a devastating blow and enjoyed the chance to battle such a proficient Hashira when Gyomei, the Rock Hashira, appeared. Kokushibo could not contain himself and expressed his unabashed admiration for Gyomei’s physique.
Gyomei displays his Demon Slayer Mark, the secret weapon he planned to save for Muzan after a fierce back-and-forth conflict. The two keep up their fierce conflict. Muichiro manages to release himself in the meanwhile. He aids Genya, and the conflict then goes on, with Kokushibo making more and more frequent strikes.
Muichiro enters the conflict just as Sanemi appears to be ready to lose, sparing the other Hashira. The upper rank appears to be gaining the upper hand once more, but in a shocking turn of events, Gyomei is able to sever his right arm, Muichiro stabs him through the torso, immobilizing him, and Genya fires a barrage of bullets at the demon with his weapon, which he modified using his own cells similarly to Kokushibo’s sword. Gyomei and Sanemi race to kill the demon as the bullets lodged in his flesh transform into “trees” and completely enclose him.
Kokushibo is unnerved by the feeling as he remembers an encounter with his younger brother. He then produces many blades from his body in a fit of wrath at the prospect of losing, fatally wounding Muichiro and Genya while also seriously hurting Sanemi and Gyomei. The four continue to advance unabated. And this was the gist of this battle, at least as far as Muichiro was concerned. The Demon Slayers managed to Defeat Kokushibo, but Muichiro and Genya perished in that battle. This was the only situation where Kokushibo was shown to have killed a Hashira in the manga.
