Does Konohamaru Die in Boruto (Manga and Anime)?

Konohamaru Sarutobi is a jōnin from Konohagakure, grandson of the Third Hokage. During his time as a genin he was a member of Team Ebisu along with Moegi and Udon. He is currently the leader of Team Konohamaru, made up of Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki. Konohamaru was born into the Sarutobi clan and was named by his grandfather in honor of the village.

Konohamaru debuted way back in Naruto, but it wasn’t until Boruto that he finally became a major character. Because of that, many fans are wondering does Konohamaru die in Boruto or is he still alive?

As of the current Code Arc, Konohamaru is alive and well in Boruto: Naruto Next Generation. His role has substantially increased in his debut and he has become a major player in the Boruto manga, which is why he is still alive and well.

The rest of the article will provide further explanations of the answer given above, as well as some additional answers that are related to this issue. We are going to provide you with all the information you need, so keep reading to find out everything you need to know about Konohamaru’s status in the Boruto manga.

Does Konohamaru die?

Everybody dies. That is the one universal inevitability that makes life fair. In fiction, though, some characters don’t die because they’re immortal, but Konohamaru is not among them.

He is mortal, and he does die (at one point), but as of the current manga and anime arcs, Konohamaru is alive and well, although he has almost died at the hands of Victor not so long ago.

Who Tried to Kill Konohamaru?

Well, we wouldn’t exactly state that Victor tried to kill Konohamaru, as much as that he almost killed him because they fought. There wasn’t any direct premeditation on Victor’s part – he would’ve done the same to anyone else; Konohamaru was just unlucky. The fight was shown in episode 166, titled “Death Match”, and the story goes like this.

After catching up with Hiruga’s older brother, Asaka, Konohamaru had to be convinced that it was indeed him and that there was a new threat. Before a truce could be reached, Deepa arrived and quickly took down the remaining quadruplets. Boruto, furious, attacked, but his kunai bounced off Deepa’s body without causing him any injury.

The target explained that he was able to manipulate all the carbon around him, including in his own body, to become invulnerable.

Victor then arrived and revealed himself to be an ally of Deepa. He then separated the jônin from the genin of the team, where Konohamaru and Mugino faced Victor. Victor proved formidable, revealing several powerful arms that proved capable of fending off Konoha’s ninjas.

Deepa attacked them with carbon cubes. Victor then fights with Mugino, who is standing as a decoy for Konohamaru’s attack from above. Victor suddenly produces two additional arms to weave hand seals and summons lightning to attack his opponents. Konohamaru then asks Mugino to act as his aide, since he can’t fight with his injury.

The genin can’t focus on attacking Deepa while, at the same time, dodging his cubes. Boruto ultimately manages to fire a Rasengan from above, but it does nothing to his opponent. Asaka tries reaching out to Hiruga, but Hiruga is dead; Deepa then implies he will eat the genin after the battle. Boruto then tries to land another Rasengan at Deepa.

Victor Vs J3Fnin

Mitsuki fires a surprise Lightning Release, which also does nothing. He attacks with snakes while Sarada analyzes Deepa’s movements with her Sharingan, trying to find an opening. She manages to dodge and deflect his cubes and moves out of the way on the brink of time as she runs out of chakra, revealing Boruto right behind her.

Deepa feigns pain from Boruto’s attack for a moment but ultimately laughs at his attempt. He carbons up his finger and flicks Boruto away like an insect. He then prepares to crush him with his foot, but Asaka draws his attention with the Hashirama Cell and sets off an explosion with his kinjutsu.

Deepa has no scratch on him, but is annoyed that the Hashirama Cell was in danger. Boruto passes out, and Deepa goes to attack him with his armored fist. He ultimately hits nothing, as Mitsuki saved Boruto with his Sage Mode. Mitsuki attacks Deepa with senjutsu lightning, and flees carrying the unconscious Boruto and Sarada. The attacks merely push Deepa back a bit, and he shifts his focus to the Hashirama Cell still with him.

Mugino then saves Konohamaru from being strangled by Victor. An explosion from the fight between Deepa and the genin draws their attention, and Victor decides to see why Deepa is taking so long. Konohamaru and Mugino are too injured and they decide not to chase after him.

Victor finds Deepa, who has recovered the Hashirama Cell while letting the genin escape. Still, in Sage Mode, Mitsuki vows to not let Boruto and Sarada die even if he endangers himself.

As Victor was interrupted and ultimately left, Konohamaru and Mugino were spared and they both survived this fight.

What Happened to Konohamaru?

As you could’ve read, Konohamaru survived the battle against Victor and he appeared in multiple arcs later on. Directly afterwards, Konohamaru and Mugino learned from Yubina that the genin had found their way back home after being badly injured. On the way back to Konoha, which was better equipped to heal them, they left Mitsuki in Orochimaru’s care.

As the genin recovered, Konohamaru blamed himself for not having been a better teacher and captain for his students. Naruto didn’t blame Konohamaru for this event. After he reported their findings on the mission, they decided to get permission to investigate Victor’s business.

Three days later, approval was given to Konohamaru and Mugino to stealthily investigate. They were also relieved to hear Boruto and Sarada make the decision to stand back and train to get stronger.

Victor27s Growing Lab Tree

A few days later, Konohamaru and Mugino arrived at Victor’s business headquarters. They exchanged words with Victor, but tension mounted as the conversation focused on the Harashima Cell, opening old wounds between them. Victor directly pointed out to them that they could not talk about it without it degenerating into a diplomatic incident and had them escorted to the exit.

Later, Konohamaru and Mugino infiltrated the company in secret to continue their investigation. As they squeezed in deeper inside the facility, they quickly found that several new patients were brought into a restricted area, without ever getting out, which they found suspicious.

To Konohamaru’s surprise, he saw a doctor from Iwa who was believed to have died during the Fabrications uprising. As they tried to sneak away, the Konoha ninjas were interrupted by a security system blocking their entry into the secret laboratory. This will ultimately lead to another fight against Victor, but we won’t be spoiling anything else.

Will Konohamaru Die?

Seeing how he is not immortal and, as we have said, everyone dies at one point, Konohamaru will also die eventually in the world of Naruto. Now, when and how that is going to happen – we don’t know. Boruto is still a big mystery in terms of its plot, so we don’t know what the author has in store for us, but we don’t see Konohamaru dying anytime soon.
