Fans Are Infuriated With Cheap-looking Hawkgirl and Guy Gardner Suits in ‘Superman’: “Fire this costume designer IMMEDIATELY”

James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ is currently filming in Cleveland, which has been transformed into Metropolis for the movie. Although Gunn promised that no spoilers would be shot in the open city, several cameos have been confirmed through set leaks.
In the past few weeks, we’ve seen Mr. Terrific, Lex Luthor, Rick Flag Sr., a mysterious villain likely to be Ulysses or Ultraman, Eve Teschmacher, and Lois Lane. More recently, glimpses of Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner and Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl have also emerged.
Both Hawkgirl and Guy Gardner appeared in full costume, and saying that fans are infuriated would be an understatement.
Many fans believe the costumes are cheap and a clear downgrade compared to ‘Black Adam,’ which featured Hawkman, DCEU’s Green Lantern. Fans are particularly upset that the suits appear rubbery and ill-fitting on the actors.
This isn’t the first time Gunn’s production has been labeled “cheap” and likened to CW quality. The initial backlash came after the reveal of the Superman suit, which was criticized as “baggy” and “rubbery.” Fans also took issue with the casting choices for Martha and Jonathan Kent, who aren’t A-listers. The most recent controversy arose when Kent’s farm was shown to be a realistic farmhouse rather than a mansion.
Seeing all those suits side by side, I must admit that previous productions did seem to put more effort into making the suits look “epic.” However, it’s important to remember that these costumes will look entirely different after post-production work. These shots were taken from afar and under natural lighting. Without color correction and specific lighting, even the best suits could look funny and tacky.
