Fans Favor Dafne Keen as the MCU’s Wolverine, but Opinions Are Divided: “Don’t make her play second fiddle”
Deadpool & Wolverine was released over a week ago and has already achieved both commercial and critical success. A major reason for its acclaim is its inclusion of many legacy characters.
Notable appearances include Garner’s Elektra, Evans’ Human Torch, and Snipes’ Blade. Among the numerous cameos, a last-minute reveal was Dafne Keen’s X-23 from the 2017 film Logan.
Keen made only one appearance in the Fox X-Men universe, but her portrayal of the character was so well-received that fans were excited by even the slightest hint of her return. Despite debunking several rumors about her involvement in Deadpool & Wolverine over the months, the actress managed to keep her role under wraps.
In the film, we see a grown-up Laura, and though her role is relatively small, she plays a pivotal part in inspiring Wolverine to become the best version of himself.
Seeing Dafne Keen as a grown-up X-23, fans have started petitioning for her to become the MCU’s Wolverine. While Hugh Jackman did reprise his role as Wolverine, he remains a variant and it’s uncertain whether he will continue in the role given his age.
Casting Keen as Wolverine would address age-related concerns, ensuring longevity and compatibility with the “Young Avengers.” However, it would also perpetuate a controversial trend in the MCU of gender-swapping established characters with female variants, leading to significant disagreement among some fans.
