Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has perfectly combined Japanese fiction’s artistry with Western fiction’s tropes to create a wonderful fantasy work that is extremely popular worldwide, and for a good reason. While the protagonists are the story’s focus, in this article, we will discuss something different – a species of monster from the series known as a chaos flower. Chaos flowers, as the name suggests, are monstrous flowers that are able to curse the people around them with their strong magic. Frieren’s party encountered one in the north, and we decided to tell you all about it in this article.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • While they were traveling in the north, Frieren and her party discovered a village full of sleeping people. Sein identified it as the effect of a curse and managed to track down the monster causing it.
  • It was revealed that the monster was a giant chaos flower that had created a subspecies by merging with the local flora. It was feeding off the mana of the people it had put to sleep.
  • Sein tried to fight it alone but failed, so he had to wake up Frieren, who immediately knew how to kill it, although she had only five seconds to do so.

A chaos flower is a powerful monster that can use curses

The world of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is one of the most beautiful and magical fantasy worlds seen in the animanga lore. The landscapes and the numerous magical creatures seen in the series are wonderful. In this article, we will talk about a specific type of creature, a monster to be precise, that we’ve seen in the north. The monster in question is called a chaos flower and it caused a lot of trouble in Laub Hills, where the heroes encountered it.

It all started when the heroes came to a village full of sleeping people. People could be found everywhere and in various positions, simply sleeping in the streets, on the ground, etc. Frieren knew that it was some foul play and assumed it was a curse, but since she was not skilled with curses, she did not know how to handle it. Luckily for them, Sein, as a Priest, was, and he immediately identified it as a sleeping curse caused by a monster, whose location he managed to pinpoint; he could not undo the curse, so the heroes had to go and fight the monster.

While on the way, Stark and Fern also fell victim to the curse, and some moments later, Frieren also did; Sein was the only one who was immune to the curse, as he was a Priest who used the “Godess’ Blessing.” Sein told them that he could wake them up for five seconds at most, but that was impractical, so he went to face the monster alone.

He encountered a gigantic, monstrous flower that immediately attacked him with its vines (as whips) and leaves. It also had thick skin and a very large core; Sein identified the core as a weak point, but he was unable to hit it with his attack. Earlier, before falling asleep, Frieren had told him to wake her up and avoid fighting the flower alone, but he was unsure what she could do in five seconds, as he would not have the time to explain how to kill it. But he decided to trust Frieren, who said that she would kill the monster and wake her up.

How did Frieren know how to kill the Chaos Flower?

He told her about the core as soon as she woke up, and Frieren fired a powerful spell directly into the flower’s core, destroying it completely at that moment. Sein was amazed as to how Frieren was able to do it in such a short time, but a scene involving Heiter explained it.

Heiter told a young Sein and his brother about Frieren’s abilities. He explained that she had always been the coldest of them all and that she never managed to bond with them properly but that they could trust her. Despite the fact that they seemingly lacked coordination between them, Frieren always knew what to do as she read the situation well.

So, when Frieren promised she would do something – one could trust her. This is why Sein decided to wake her up, and he was right in doing so, as Frieren immediately knew how she needed to react and was able to destroy the evil flower and save everyone.
