Skyrim: Here’s How To Get Rid of Custom Destination Marker

Share:

Skyrim has one of the most detailed in-game maps out there. It has different icons that are assigned to various different places of interest, and it supports search functions as well as filtering and placing custom destination markers. The good thing about custom destination markers is that they allow you to travel to the specific destination of your choosing without relying on pre-set map markers that we’re used to. You can only put one custom destination marker at a time so it’s a good idea to remove the old one after we arrive at our destination. Let’s see how to get rid of the custom destination marker in Skyrim.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • You can remove the custom destination marker in Skyrim by clicking on any empty space on the map.
  • After you’ve clicked on an empty space a prompt should appear asking you whether you want to remove the custom destination marker, change the location of the map marker, or leave the marker as it is.

What do Skyrim map icons mean?

Skyrim is a pretty big place, the game has a vast world filled with places of interest and specific locations. Almost every location in Skyrim is marked with an icon. Each type of location has a specific icon assigned to it. There are 52 icons present in the game currently, those 52 icons are divided between generic icons and unique icons. Unique icons are reserved for cities as each city has its specific icon as well as palaces inside the cities. Whiterun’s Dragonsreach will be marked differently from Solitude’s Blue Palace. Some unique locations added with Dragonborn DLC on Solstheim have specific icons as well, such as Temple of Miraak and Tel Mithryn.

Icons belonging to places that are yet undiscovered are completely black while discovered locations are white. The locations that are eligible to be “cleared” will be marked as “cleared” after you’ve visited them, defeated the final boss, and looted the treasure.

Map markers on Skyrim Map

Map markers generally mark the locations that you should visit. They are most often assigned to a specific quest and lead you in the direction of your current objective. There are several types of map markers as well. Those that point to the objective that is in the same “cell” as you, and map markers that point to an objective that is in a different cell.

Players can place custom map markers as well. Those are usually pale blue in color, while the rest of the markers are usually white.

Why do I have too many objectives on the map in Skyrim?

If you have too many objectives (arrow-shaped map markers) in Skyrim it’s always due to having too many quests active. If you want to have a single objective marked on your compass (and your map) you should stick with a single quest at a time. You can toggle quests on and off by opening your journal and clicking on a quest that you want to activate or de-activate.

The result of this command should be visible immediately as your map will fill up with all previously undiscovered locations.
