Minecraft: Here’s How To Put on Armor (Simple & Fast)
Since PvP was introduced in Minecraft, a lot of players realized that it’s essentially a contest of speed and not necessarily of skill. One of the things that can be burdensome for most players, as well as rob them of their victory, is none other than the inventory screen. It seems like an insignificant thing to be annoyed by, but opening the inventory screen while you’re trying to equip your armor can cost you a precious few seconds. Due to that, we’ve decided to create this guide for equipping your armor fast. Let’s see how to put on armor in Minecraft fast.
How do you equip armor in Minecraft?
You can equip armor in Minecraft either by going to your inventory and placing each armor piece in its respective place or by using a Hotbar. This is among the most essential things you need to learn when you’re just starting out in Minecraft, and there is no shame in asking how to do it! Essentially, armor is used just like any other item. If you have trouble equipping armor take a look at your character’s model in the inventory screen.

Every slot corresponds to a specific part of your armor set.
There are 4 slots in total, 5 if you count the shield, corresponding to the helmet, chestplate, boots, leggings, and shield.
You can simply drag and drop every piece of armor in the corresponding slot once you open your inventory screen.
How to put on armor in Minecraft fast?
You can equip armor in Minecraft faster by placing each armor piece in your Hotbar. Once you’ve done that, you will notice that you are holding those armor pieces in your hand. While holding armor in your hands, simply right-click, and your armor should be equipped.
The other way to equip your armor fast is to open your inventory screen and place every piece of armor in the corresponding slot really fast. It’s kind of disappointing, but it is what it is.
How do you equip armor in Minecraft creative mode?
Equipping armor in creative mode works identically to survival mode. To put on armor in creative mode you need to access your inventory and place the items in their slots, or simply use the Hotbar.
Most problems with equipping armor in creative mode stem from the fact that players have difficulty finding their inventory.
To open your inventory in Creative mode simply press “E” and navigate to the chest icon in the lower right corner of your screen. Once you hover above the chest icon, you will see that it’s called “Survival Inventory”

Survival inventory contains everything you collect and works just like regular inventory.
How do you equip mobs with armor in Minecraft?
You can indirectly equip mobs with items if you throw items on the ground near them.
Minecraft doesn’t allow you to equip other mobs with armor in a direct way, but you can provide them with armor that they will eventually equip. To do that, approach the mob that you wish to “arm” and simply drop armor pieces or weapons in front of the mob.
Zombies and Skeletons can equip items that you have thrown at them, but not all will do that. The chances for that are random and determined upon spawn.
It turns out that mobs are pretty picky when it comes to items, too. If they find a piece of armor or a weapon of better quality than what they currently have equipped, they will discard their old gear in favor of new gear.

If you have trouble coming across a mob that wants to equip your items, you can spawn one by using commands.
To summon a skeleton or zombie able to pick up items, use the following commands:
- /summon zombie ~ ~ ~ {CanPickUpLoot:1b}
- /summon skeleton ~ ~ ~ {CanPickUpLoot:1b}
You should have an army of artificially placed sword-wielding zombies or skeletons in no time.
How to auto-equip armor in Minecraft?
There is a way to auto-equip armor in Minecraft, but it’s done by using dispensers. In order to create an auto-equip system, you will need 4x dispensers, 9x redstone dust, 2x stones, and 1x pressure plate.
To build an armor equipper follow these steps.
- First, start by placing two dispensers on top of each other. They need to face the same direction.
- Place the other two dispensers in front of the previously placed dispensers. Make sure that all dispensers are facing each other. If you have trouble placing dispensers on top of each other in the Java edition, press shift while you’re right-clicking. Your dispensers should be separated by a single block.
- Place the stone pressure plate between the dispensers.
- Put 1x stone behind every dispenser column.
- Connect the dispensers and pressure plate with redstone dust. You’re going to need 9x pieces of redstone dust in total, and don’t forget to connect the upper two dispensers as well.
- Once you’ve connected the dispensers, equip every dispenser with a single piece of armor of your choice.
- If you’ve done everything right, your dispensers should auto-equip armor on you as soon as you walk over the pressure plate.
This way requires a bit of effort and materials, but it’s useful to have either way. In PVP, it’s less convenient to use, but you might give it a try. Otherwise, stick with the Hotbar method.

And that’s about it; we’ve covered just about everything there is to cover about equipping armor in Minecraft. If you’re interested in more Minecraft-related guides, make sure to check out our post covering armor toughness.
