Iman Vellani Wants MS. Marvel To Join Notable Superhero TV in the X-Men To Confirm Her Status as a Mutant

Vellani’s Ms. Marvel just joined the MCU not long ago. Now, she’s got her own show and plays a big role in ‘The Marvels.’ Looks like she’s going to be a big deal in the MCU, especially with the Young Avengers project happening. When asked which team she wanted to join in the movies, she had something unexpected to say.
On the big screen? X-Men. I don’t think that’s a bad answer. I think the X-Men is so cool, and it really just marks her as a legitimate mutant and all the naysayers can no longer say nay.
Her comment refers to some upset fans who are unwilling to accept that Ms. Marvel is now considered a mutant. Originally introduced as an Inhuman, her origin story in the MCU revealed her powers come from a genetic mutation, making her the first confirmed mutant in the MCU. Changes to her character didn’t end there. In the comics, Ms. Marvel was killed and resurrected as a mutant, sparking debate on the MCU’s influence on comic storylines. When asked if she thinks she could serve as a gateway character for younger audiences, Vellani admitted it’s ultimately up to the fans to decide.
I never thought about that. Because I still have my own X-Men characters that I look back to, and I think those books are so timeless in a way. I was just reading Grant Morrison’s run and Chris Claremont, which Chris Claremont’s a little edgy sometimes, but the Grant Morrison stuff is like… I can read it a million times. I think it totally works. But it is cool for people to kind of accept her as a mutant now. And I don’t know if people are actually looking to her as the literal new mutant and this is the new generation. But yeah, I don’t think that’s for me to say. I think the audience will take these two miniseries that I’ve done, and hopefully they’re happy with the results.
