Is Halo Infinite Cross Platform? (& How To Play With Friends)

Halo Infinite has proven to be one of the most popular multiplayer games today because of how different players around the world are able to play against one another. Of course, considering that Halo Infinite can be played on different platforms, much like the other multiplayer games that we have today, there are various players who are playing this game on platforms that aren’t similar to one another. So, is Halo Infinite cross platform?

For the first time ever, Halo Infinite allows you to play with your friends on different platforms as the multiplayer mode shares one and the same server. This means that Xbox One and Series X/S players can play with PC players in competitive multiplayer and co-op multiplayer modes.

This is the first time in Halo’s history that the game allows different players from different systems to play against and with one another. It doesn’t come as a surprise that Halo Infinite has become quite popular among different gamers due to this feature. So, with that said, let’s get to know more about Halo Infinite’s cross platform feature and how you can play with friends from other systems.

Is Halo Infinite Cross Platform?

Halo has always been one of the most popular game franchises of all time as it is the face of the Xbox console, considering that the first Halo game was released alongside the first Xbox console in 2001. Since its release in the Xbox, Halo has made its way to the PC system, as it was easy for Microsoft to integrate the game in both Xbox and Windows, considering that they are both under the same banner.

However, one of the things that people know about the Halo franchise is that it has never featured cross platform multiplayer that allowed different players from different systems to play against one another. While an Xbox-to-Xbox or a PC-to-PC multiplayer feature has always been there, the Halo games of the past did not allow players from an Xbox console to play with their friends who are gaming on a Windows PC.

Considering that Halo, in the past, never included cross platform in any of its main-title Halo games, does that mean that Halo Infinite follows the same path as well. Does Halo Infinite have cross platform multiplayer?

The good news is that, for the first time ever, Halo included cross platform multiplayer in Halo Infinite, and that means that you can play multiplayer mode with your friends regardless of what system they are on.

Of course, this doesn’t come as a surprise, considering that Halo’s multiplayer mode is entirely free, and that means that you don’t need to purchase a pass or subscribe to anything to play multiplayer as long as you own the game. And considering that there is no server-side restriction that prevents a player from playing multiplayer mode in Halo, it becomes easier for the developers to integrate all of the different players into one server, regardless of what system they are playing Halo Infinite on.

On Which Platforms Can You Play Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite is available on three different platforms. The first is the Xbox One, which is the older-generation console of the Xbox lineup of consoles. Of course, the next-gen Xbox Series X/S consoles also allow you to play Halo Infinite. Lastly, you can also play Halo Infinite on Microsoft Windows.

Take note that Halo Infinite is not available on both PlayStation and Nintendo Switch because of the fact that this is a Microsoft-exclusive title. Of course, Microsoft owns both Xbox and Windows, and that’s why it’s easier for the company to integrate cross platform multiplayer by using one single server for all of the different systems.

For example, those who are playing on an Xbox One can play with someone who is gaming on a Windows PC system. And you can also play cross generation because Xbox One players can also play with or against Xbox Series X/S players.

Is Halo Infinite Campaign Co-Op?

At first, the Halo Infinite cross platform multiplayer only includes competitive multiplayer that allows you to play with or against different players from different systems. This was an entirely new concept in Halo because none of the other titles included cross platform multiplayer.

However, the problem is that Halo Infinite does not allow you to play co-op in campaign mode. This means that if you are playing through the series campaign, you won’t be able to play alongside your friends in a cooperative environment. This came as a surprise to Halo fans because campaign co-op has always been a staple in the franchise.

Nevertheless, there is a good possibility that Halo Infinite will one day include campaign co-op in a future season or in another update. Halo games tend to last for years, and that means that the devs are constantly working on updates and improvements. It could be possible that a future update to the game will allow you to play Halo Infinite’s campaign mode in a cooperative setting.

How To Play Cross Platform Play Halo Infinite

Considering that Halo Infinite’s cross platform multiplayer mode only works whenever you are playing competitive matches with or against friends, you might be wondering how you could play cross platform in Halo Infinite.

What you should know is that Halo Infinite’s cross platform mode will always be turned on because the game will recognize all of the different players playing online multiplayer on one and the same server. The game won’t even tell who is playing on an Xbox console or a PC because the player ID won’t indicate what system you are playing on.

This means that Halo Infinite’s online multiplayer mode hosts all of the different players in one server regardless of what their platform of choice may be. And this allows you to play with different players without even knowing whether or not you are playing on the same platform.

Probably the reason why the developers intentionally hid this fact from the players is that, in first-person shooting games, those who are playing on keyboards and mice tend to have an advantage over controller players. So, to minimize harassment and bullying or even trash-talking, hiding this information from players may have been one of the things that the developers intentionally included in the game.

Of course, considering that Halo Infinite’s cross platform mode allows all players to play within the same server, there is no way for you to turn the cross platform mode off. That means that if you are gaming on your Xbox controller and you want to stay away from players gaming on their PCs, you won’t be able to do so.

Going back, if you want to play with friends regardless of which system they are playing on, all you need to do is to search for their player ID without even doing anything else. It’s very simple and easy.

Does Halo Infinite Have Cross Progression?

Another piece of good news for those who are playing on both their Xbox and their PC is the fact that Halo Infinite also has cross progression implemented. That means that, as long as you are logging in using the same credentials regardless of which between the platforms you are using, your progression and rank in the online multiplayer mode will be carried over.
