Is Charlotte Katakuri dead and what happened to him in One Piece?

Charlotte Katakuri is Big Mom’s second child as well as the Minister of Flour and one of the three Sweets Generals; a bounty of 1,057,000,000 Berries hangs over her head. According to Brûlée, not only has he never been defeated but he has never even been knocked down. Cold and solitary, in public he shows a very calm and refined attitude while in private he reveals himself as greedy without any restraint as much as Big Mom; despite this, he has a great sense of loyalty and honor towards opponents he deems worthy of merit.

He was a feared opponent in the world of pirates until his clash with Luffy, which ultimately cost him his reputation and, potentially, even his life. In this article, we are going to bring you an overview of the battle, whose ending will ultimately reveal Katakuri’s fate, i.e., whether he is still alive or dead in One Piece.

After their first brief skirmish, Katakuri is preparing to consume his daily snack hidden from the gaze of others in a temple made of mochi, however, Luffy surprises him while he gorges himself, and the two resume fighting. Katakuri, beside himself with anger, loses concentration and cannot predict the actions of the opponent, who hits him with several attacks in Gear Fourth.

After calming down, Katakuri resumes using Observation Haki, with which he manages to evade the opponent’s blows. Then use his powers to create arms coated with the Armament Haki in order to hit Luffy hard. His opponent tries to get away from him, so Katakuri chases him, but Straw Hat accidentally finds Brûlée which he uses to get past a mirror and get out of that dimension.

Katakuri thus remains to await developments, hearing the communications that reveal the sightings of the pirate in various cities of the archipelago. He later sees Luffy return to the mirror world and resumes the duel, preventing him from attacking using the Observation Haki, each time dropping the enemy to the ground under his blows. However, he senses that the opponent is trying to exploit his own ability to predict the future.

He later confesses that the Big Mom Pirates know about the plan of his crew to reunite in Cacao, where some of his brothers are now located. The fight continues, but Katakuri realizes that, by continuing at that rate, the opponent will master the Observation Haki just as well as he has done it. For this, he stabs him with his trident. However, he realizes that Luffy is no longer fighting as before and he does not explain why, since he was about to recognize the honor.

After hitting him numerous other times, he sees his sister Flambé attempting to hit him with a needle thrown from his blowgun. For this, he approaches her and his sister goes to meet him, believing he wants to thank her, but at that point Katakuri pierces her with his trident and, after showing her his mouth, scolds her for meddling in his duel, stating that she has affected his honor as a fighter.

At that point, Flambé repudiates him by ordering his subordinates to take photos to show the appearance of Katakuri to all the inhabitants of Toto Land. However, Katakuri and Luffy use the Conqueror’s Haki, which knocks everyone out unconscious. The fight continues unabated, with constant exchanges of blows. Katakuri seems to have the advantage, but every time he knocks his opponent to the ground, he gets up.

When the two fighters are very tired, Straw Hat uses a variant of the Gear Fourth, the Snakeman. The speed of the latter’s attacks puts Katakuri into difficulty, as he is hit several times. At that point, the general hits him by dramatically increasing the size of his arm, creating large needles covered by the Armament Haki with which he crushes the opponent to the ground for the first time, and then makes him spin in the air, only to knock him to the ground again.

Luffy, however, manages to get up and the two hit each other, generating a powerful impact force. After a further exchange of blows, Katakuri knocks the opponent to the ground with such force that it creates a hole in the floor, knocking him unconscious. However, the sweets general also collapses to the ground.

Ten minutes later, Luffy is back on his feet again, but at that moment Katakuri gets up too. The latter thus asks the enemy if he intends to return one day to Toto Land to defeat Big Mom; after Straw Hat confirms it, emphasizing his desire to become king of the pirates, Katakuri falls backward, remaining unconscious.

Katakuri awakens and Brûlée joins him and begins to medicate him. He asks him if he fell on his back on purpose, but the pirate can’t answer her. His sister thus reveals to him that she knows that the image of the perfect man he had created was for the sole purpose of defending all members of his family. She then states that Luffy has escaped from Toto Land and that she was sure that was the thing that would have made him happy. She however goes on to say that she will not forgive him.

To confirm that Kaktakuri really did survive his clash with Luffy, we can only say that he was briefly seen during the Wano Country Arc, when he, together with Oven, attacked the Vinsmokes who came to free Niji and Yonji from the laboratory on Whole Cake Island. They failed, though, as Caesar Clown released a special gas that caused Katakuri and Oven to hallucinate and fight each other. He is also briefly seen in One Piece Film: Red attending Uta’s concert.
