Is Shanks a Member of the Figarland Family & What Is His Last Name?
Everyone knows that Shanks is one of the best characters from Oda’s One Piece series. And while Shanks’ story has yet to be fully revealed, the recent events in the series are slowly heading toward some big revelations regarding one of the franchise’s best and most popular characters. This article is going to discuss some of these revelations. Some time ago, as fans of the series will know, Shanks visited the Five Elders, which shocked many fans. Oda did not reveal any additional information, so this situation was mostly forgotten. But, with the recent revelations related to Uta and some of the noble families in the series, this scene has once again come into the spotlight, and in this article, we are going to explain it, possibly. Namely, this article will reveal whether Shanks is a member of the Figarland Family.
So far, it has only been implied and not confirmed that Shanks could be a member of the Figarland Family. This was first implied in the One Piece Film: Red, and the recent events in the manga also highly suggest that Shanks could, indeed, be a member of this mysterious noble family. We’ll have to wait a bit for confirmation, though. As for his last name, it would mean that he is actually Figarland Shanks, but this will also have to wait for an official confirmation.
The rest of the article will give you answers to many relevant questions surrounding the character of Shanks and his history. You will find out everything you want to and need to know about the character, as we intend to answer some burning and interesting questions raised recently in the series. If you don’t know the whole story of One Piece, we have to warn you that there will be spoilers in the following paragraphs.
Shanks could very well be a member of the Figarland Family
If you remember Shanks from… well… not too long ago, even… less than a year ago, you’ll probably know that Shanks’ full name is – Shanks! Some old theories created by fans on the Internet regarding his family suggested that he could’ve been related to Portgas D. Ace and Gol D. Roger, but Oda has not confirmed these theories in the One Piece manga (or anime), but it seems that they have finally been refuted, although it is still only an implication.
So, as far as we know at this moment (until the next chapter comes out, at least), Shanks’ full and real name is just Shanks; everything else is just speculation.
But, as we have said, these old theories have been put to rest by Oda sensei, who implicitly provided us with more information about Shanks’ past, suggesting that Yonko is not only an important character with an important backstory but that he might actually be a World Noble! Yeah, just imagine… Saint Shanks… it’s hilarious, but it might just be true!
Namely, everyone knows that Roger and his crew found Shanks as an infant in a chest during the God Valley Incident. They took him in as one of their own and made a pirate out of him. Over the year, Shanks has become one of the series’s most powerful and influential characters, which is why fans seem to adore him. But, while Shanks’ reputation has been speaking for itself all these years, we never really found out anything about this great character, and with the manga having entered its final saga, it was about time that Oda started spilling the beans on Shanks and his story. So, what do we know?
Well, not much, but at least we have some clues now. Namely, some time ago, a person looking exactly like Shanks, save for the scars, visited the Five Elders, and everyone and their aunt was shocked. But, when the God’s Knights, an elite unit loyal to the World Government, were revealed, with one of their members looking a lot like Shanks, everyone noticed that something was off.
When the Five Elders mentioned that Uta could be a member of the Figarland Family due to her connection (relation) to Shanks in the One Piece Film: Red, the situation became even more confusing, as their brief remark actually implies that Shanks is somehow connected to the Figarland Family. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have mentioned this fact. But, at that moment, we knew nothing of the Figarland Family, and since the movie itself wasn’t canon, many fans were skeptical about whether this fact would be relevant to the manga. But it seems that it will.
Namely, as the recent chapters have revealed, the Figarland Family will play an important role in the final saga. We found out that they are a noble family and were among the 20 original nobles that founded the World Government. With this, all of the previous questions seem to be answered – if Shanks is indeed a member of the Figarland Family, as the Five Elders suggested, that means that his relatives are loyal to the World Government and that accounts for everything, actually.
This explains why Shanks was found during the God Valley Incident and why he was found there. As we know, there were World Nobles on the island. This also explains why Shanks’ silhouette was seen among those of the God’s Knights – it wasn’t actually Shanks, but a relative of his that looked a lot like him (possibly a brother?).
And it seems that this same relative was the one that talked with the Five Elders, and not Shanks. All of this makes proper sense, and it seems that Oda is heading in that direction, but we will have to wait a bit more for Chapter 1086 to confirm some of these theories.
