Blue Lock is one of the most popular sports manga today and is currently being adapted into an anime as exciting as the original material. It follows a grand journey where many characters are competing to become the world’s strongest striker. With its vast content and many turning points, fans who are not caught up or just not as familiar with the series may wonder if Blue Lock manga has finished or if it is still ongoing.

Blue Lock manga is still ongoing. It is currently in the Neo Egoist League arc in chapter 197. It does not seem the manga is reaching its end and will continue for quite some time.

The manga is as popular as ever and it seems neither the authors nor the editors want it to end, it truly is an amazing series. Even if the manga still has a long way to go, let’s look back a bit at its progress and how close we are to the end.

What Is Blue Lock?

Blue Lock is a sports manga originally written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro, while it is illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. It began serialization on August 1, 2018, in Weekly Shonen Magazine, the same magazine as Hajime no Ippo and Rent-A-Girlfriend. The manga was even recommended by Hajime Isayama, the author of Attack on Titan, a manga series that Yusuke Nomura worked on as an assistant.

The story begins in 2018 after Japan lost the soccer World Cup, it was truly a big defeat since they finished in 16th place. Because of this, a very mysterious and intelligent man named Ego Jinpachi is hired by the Japanese Soccer Union in order to improve their national soccer team. What Ego comes up with is a training camp that pretty much resembles a prison where promising young men can train together to become the world’s best striker. In a battle royale fashion, part of these young men is expelled if they fail to complete each step in the program, with the remaining person being defined as the winner and the best striker Japan has seen. Those who fail will also never be accepted into representing Japan ever again.

The protagonist is a guy named Yoichi Isagi, an average high schooler who is a fan of soccer and does not feel confident enough in his abilities. As he sees an opportunity to improve his abilities and become the greatest, he enters Blue Lock. There he will meet even stronger opponents, but also make lots of allies and make his way through this battle royale.

When Is Blue Lock Manga Going to End?

At this point, there is no official notice that states when Blue Lock is going to end, and neither does it seem to be reaching its end. With the release of the anime, the manga is only going to get even more popular and sell much more, making Blue Lock a much more valuable series that the Weekly Shonen Maganize will not want to end.

However, somewhat theorize when the Blue Lock manga is going to end. Since the beginning of the series, there has been teased that the manga will end with a World Cup arc, where either some of the characters participate as part of Japan’s team somehow or the Blue Lock winner gets to star as Japan’s greatest striker. Taking a look at the current state of the manga, in the Neo Egoist League arc, there seems to be at least more than 3 years’ worth of content until we get to the World Cup arc.

The arcs that happen inside Blue Lock seem far from ending, so saying that there are still around 150 chapters left is a great assumption.

Even though we do not officially know when or how Blue Lock will end, we are grateful enough that it will not happen in the foreseeable future. This series is extremely exciting to read through and with the release of the anime, it seems it will only skyrocket from this point on.
