James Gunn Shares Unexpected Details About ‘Peacemaker’ Season 1 and the DCU

With the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ the DCEU has come to an end, and Gunn’s and Safran’s DCU has taken its place. It’s been known for years that the DCU would follow a similar model to the MCU, with multiple phases or “chapters.” The first chapter, titled ‘Gods & Monsters,’ was announced, with ‘Creature Commandos’ being the first project released under it. However, Gunn has stated that ‘Superman: Legacy’ will serve as the unofficial start of the new DCU.

One significant project transitioning from the DCEU to the new DCU is ‘Peacemaker.’ While ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 was already confirmed to be in development, Gunn clarified that the show will be part of the DCU canon. He assured fans that he would make the transition seamless and understandable, ensuring minimal confusion between the DCEU and DCU, especially concerning ‘Peacemaker.’

Recently, Gunn confirmed that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 1 won’t be part of the DCU canon. However, he assured that there will be explanations provided once the show airs. Additionally, the storyline for Season 2 will occur after the events of ‘Superman.’

Gunn clarified on Threads that ‘Peacemaker’ will be filmed concurrently with ‘Superman.’

‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 was confirmed to be in development in February 2022. The show had been in pre-production for a while, with a consistent cast lineup. John Cena stars as Peacemaker, a government agent dedicated to peace at any cost. Steve Agee plays John Economos, the Belle Reve Penitentiary warden. Danielle Brooks portrays Leota Adebayo, a member of the Suicide Squad. Jennifer Holland is Emilia Harcourt, an A.R.G.U.S. agent collaborating closely with the Squad. Freddie Stroma takes on the role of Vigilante, known for his lethal form of justice.
