Jason Momoa Confirms He’s Playing Lobo in the DCU!
More than a year ago, James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios as Co-Producers and Co-CEOs, they announced a slate of movies and shows that will reboot the ill-fated DCEU. This also meant that actors like Cavill, Momoa, and Gal Gadot who were loved by fans wouldn’t continue portraying their roles in future DC adaptations.
Even though some actors like Cavill already moved to different projects it’s been pretty much rumored from day one that Momoa won’t exactly leave DC or WB for that matter as he has been heavily rumored to play Lobo. The rumors were mostly fueled by Momoa’s physical resemblance to the character and the fact that he wanted to play him for a long time now.
Now the day is here and Momoa officially confirmed that he will be portraying Lobo on his private Instagram.
The post consists of Momoa’s past statement which is simply waiting for the call from the studio to play the character with the caption “They called” meaning that he was contacted and presumably based on his past words – accepted the role.
Momoa will debut in the upcoming ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ which will be the second movie in production and the second DCU movie released overall as confirmed by James Gunn.
The movie is already deep in development and is ready to start production in early 2025.
The film is described as a big science fiction epic contrasting Kara Zor-El (Supergirl), who grew up on a piece of destroyed Krypton and saw everyone around her die, with her cousin Superman, who was raised on Earth by loving parents. The film is based on the 2021-2022 comic miniseries ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.
Ana Nogueira is writing the screenplay, and Milly Alcock has been cast as Supergirl, set to appear in another DCU project before this film. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film will begin filming in January 2025 and is scheduled for release on June 26, 2026.
