Jujutsu Kaisen: Here’s Why Yuji Itadori Looks Like Sukuna!
Sukuna is, alongside Kenjaku, the biggest villain in Jujutsu Kaisen and the most dangerous one; we’re certain he is more powerful than Kenjaku. Now, due to his immense importance, Sukuna has, despite being a villain, collected a solid amount of fans. This explains why he is so popular, and in this article, we are going to provide you with the explanation for a phenomenon that has been bugging fans ever since Sukuna first appeared in the series, and that is: why do Itadori and Sukuna look so much alike? In this article, we are going to explain why that is in Jujutsu Kaisen!
Sukuna’s true form is monstrous
We should address Sukuna’s initial appearance before delving into the major question itself. Namely, although Sukuna’s appearance as a human is unknown, we do know his appearance as a cursed spirit—that is, before he was vanquished and his strength was divided into 20 fingers. Gojo gave this explanation at the beginning of the series. Nevertheless, this Sukuna was introduced to us in Chapter 237, allowing us to finally know that Gojo was accurate in his portrayal.
Sukuna’s original look was best described by Gojo as that of a two-faced, four-armed monster, which was actually the most accurate depiction of him. He also appears to have had a second mouth beneath his stomach, based on the photographs we currently have. This is the Sukuna that Kashimo saw when he used this particular power to Incarnate himself, proving that Gojo’s depiction was accurate. In this form he grows taller as well. As we’ve said, Sukuna is now a cursed spirit, and this is why he looks so grotesque; he retains a more or less humanoid appearance, but he is a cursed spirit, and that is why he has four arms, two faces, and several other additional organs scattered around his body.
But, this does not answer our principal question – why he looks like Itadori, so allow us to explore this question in the next section.
Sukuna looks like his vessel, but only slightly
It is known that Sukuna assumed a humanoid look that was comparable to his host in the present, as he was not completely resurrected and instead lived via his vessel. The character was introduced in the current timeline by Yuji Itadori, who took on the role of Sukuna’s host after swallowing his finger. Yuji Itadori successfully contained Sukuna and stopped him from fully taking over his body. While he controlled Yuji’s body, Sukuna’s original body would merge with Yuji’s, altering it.
With the exception of his hair, which stood up when he assumed control of Yuji’s body, Sukuna resembled him fairly precisely; Yuji’s original hairstyle was normal. Additionally, all of Sukuna’s original tattoos would cover the young boy’s body when he would over, presumably with the exception of a few minor alterations from the ink from his previous life. Beneath his main eyes, he has another pair of eyeballs. Sukuna is more likely to wear a more feminine kimono when in charge because he used to have four arms and had a preference for open sleeves.

Now, there is no proper explanation why Sukuna and Yuji look so alike, save for the fact that Sukuna takes on the appearance of his vessel while in them; this was proven to be true when he took over Megumi’s body and his apperance changed when he would take charge of the body: he then resembled Megumi and not himself. This means that our theory is correct in that aspect and that the similarity was due to him being a part of Yuji’s body and not something else.
We could also observe this when he actually revealed his true form, which did not look like Itadori. There are some theories suggesting that Sukuna could be related to Yuji, but that is unlikely as things stand now and even if it is true, it has no relevance to the topic of this article.
