Jujutsu Kaisen: Is Takaba Dead? Here Is What Happens to Him!
Among the characters introduced in Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen, the failed stand-up comedian who became a Culling Game player, Fumihiko Takaba, is certainly one of the most intriguing ones. Yes, we know we’ve said this about many of the characters we’ve written about here, but believe us – this is really true in Takaba’s case. The guy with the comedy routine had an amazing fight with Kenjaku during the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, and while the fight is over, Takaba’s fate is still up in the air. Is he dead? This article will explore the most recent info from the manga and give an answer to this burning question.
Fumihiko Takaba is a very interesting character who became an unlikely hero
Fumihiko Takaba was first introduced as a failed stand-up comedian in Tokyo, but he was made a player in the Culling Game by Kenjaku and thus became a sorcerer. Although he had some important moments before, the event we are going to talk about here is his fight against Kenjaku.
Kenjaku was more skilled than Takaba, but Takaba decided to use his powers to annul Kenjaku’s physical advantage by setting a goal for himself – if he managed to make Kenjaku laugh, he would win. Realizing that brute force won’t work against Takaba, Kenjaku opted for a different approach and the two had a very interesting and heartfelt comedic showdown which resulted in Takaba realizing a sad thing: it had to end. Having had his dream performance, Takaba realized that it would have to end soon, and that was it.
His technique was deactivated and he was shown on the ground, dressed like a corpse before a funeral. This scene is iconic and fans have been wondering – ever since – whether Takaba is still alive or not. We are now going to tell you what we know.
His ultimate fate is up in the air, but we don’t see him appearing in any major fights anymore
The final moment, as we’ve elaborated above, showed Takaba down on the ground, beneath Kenjaku, dressed in traditional funeral robes and positioned like a corpse. This was a clear indication that he might be dead, but he suddenly turned and thanked Kenjaku for the experience and then returned to being “dead” with a smile on his face, as Kenjaku was killed by Yuta, who admitted that that had been their plan all along, as Tabaka was not there to kill anyone.
As Yuta was finishing Kenjaku and Rika was dealing with the escaped Cursed Spirits, we saw the boy carrying Takaba’s body with him. From that perspective, Takaba seemed quite dead, and we assume that Yuta was taking him to Ieiri. There are two things that are confusing here, though. The first one is Takaba’s “thank you” and the smile on his face, which clearly showed that he did not die immediately, but since his technique was still active at that time (although it was ending), it could be possible that he died once his technique was fully deactivated.
This would explain why he seemed to be quite dead when Yuta was dragging his body, but if he was dead, why would Yuta waste so much time taking him to Ieiri, knowing that he had to return to fight Sukuna? If he was dead, someone else could’ve picked him up later; why waste time at such a crucial moment? But, if he wasn’t dead… then time was of vital importance, really.
As you san see, the question of Takaba’s ultimate fate remains an open one and we don’t really know if he is going to survive or not, as we really have no clue as to what Ieiri is going and what she even can do with the bodies that have been delivered to her; this is one aspect we haven’t seen yet. We doubt that Takaba will have a major moment in the series’ future, but we still don’t know whether he is dead or alive.
