Jujutsu Kaisen: Mei Mei Actually Fought Pseudo-Geto (Kenjaku) & Here Is What You Need To Know!
As fans of Jujutsu Kaisen will know, despite her overall popularity, Mei Mei is one of the most controversial characters in the whole series. She did not appear much, and she was always on the side of the heroes, but her unconventional morals, as well as the “episode” with Ui Ui, her younger brother, made Mei Mei a very interesting and talked-about figure. In this article, though, we are going to focus on her story from the Shibuya Incident Arc, i.e., the immediate aftermath of the battle with the Smallpox Deity. It seems that Mei Mei fought Pseudo-Geto (Kenjaku) and in this article, we are going to bring you all the details!
Mei Mei and Ui Ui defeated the Smallpox Deity, but the fight left them drained
You may recall, if you watched the second episode of the anime rendition of the Shibuya Incident Arc, that during their time with Yuji, Ui Ui was carrying a big item for Mei Mei. The three of them would soon split up, and Mei Mei and Ui Ui came across Pseudo-Geto (Kenjaku), who was their enemy. Of course, being as slick as he is, Kenjaku did not want to face them head-on, so he used Suguru Geto’s original technique to summon the powerful Smallpox Deity, as the two siblings had to face one of the most powerful curses known to the jujutsu society.
It was their only significant on-screen battle in Shibuya (well, it was their only significant on-screen battle in general, to be honest), and although it appeared that the Smallpox Deity would kill them, Mei Mei was able to exorcise the powerful curse with a little assistance from her brother, who used his (limited) abilities to distract the powerful cursed spirit. And that was it – the Smallpox Deity was exorcised, and what followed – seemingly – was a clash with Kenjaku. And then – nothing!
The fight against Kenjaku was not shown, but we know what happened
While the series did make clear that Mei Mei and Ui Ui had to face Kenjaku after the Smallpox Deity, the fight was never actually shown. Yeah, you were probably confused by the title of this article, as no one really remembers a fight between the three, but as we’ve said, there is a good reason for that: the fight was never shown in the manga or in the anime, so we have no clue what happened there, but we do know the consequences of that clash.
Deducing from several later chapters, we can confirm that Mei Mei and Ui Ui failed to defeat Kenjaku but that Kenjaku also failed to defeat them. Knowing what happened and how powerful Kenjaku actually is, we assume that Mei Mei simply didn’t have it in her at the moment (immediately after an exhausting fight) to face Kenjaku, who had not been fighting until then. It was quite obvious that they could not win, and since Mei Mei cared almost exclusively about herself and her brother, she decided it was time to flee. The two of them used Ui Ui’s technique to teleport from Shibuya, and we saw them together in a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur. At the same time, we know that Kenjaku was unharmed since he would appear in front of Mahito later.
The siblings did not suffer much either, we can confirm that, but they did not win the battle, and knowing that Kenjaku would’ve killed them probably, they decided to save themselves. Not the most noble thing to do, but it is a very Mei Mei thing to do if you know what she’s like.
And that is all we know. We can only guess as to why Akutami never showed this fight – it could be that he did not have a good idea as to how he should execute it, that he did not have enough time to finish it, that the editors decided to remove it, etc. – but whatever the reason is, this is all that is known about this clash.
