Jujutsu Kaisen: 5 Things To Know about Takeru

And while Jujutsu Kaisen is definitely close to being finished, Gege Akutami still doesn’t shy away from introducing new mysteries, so the most recent Chapter 253 mentioned a character known as Usami. And while we still don’t know who Usami is, their story (based on the theory we have, which is presented in our separate article) took us back to a character called Takeru. Takeru was introduced in a flashback from Chapter 147 of the manga, and due to his potential connection to Usami, we have decided to revisit his story and tell you all you need to know about him.
Fact #1: Takeru is a Cursed Corpse
In case you were wondering, Takeru is actually a Cursed Corpse. If you don’t remember what he looks like, here is a quick reminder:
It is quite obvious that Takeru is a Cursed Corpse, as even in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, characters with such an appearance aren’t really commonplace. A Cursed Corpse is an inanimate object that has been brought to life using Jujutsu, which usually serves as a puppet of a sorcerer, although they can be more elaborate than that and have different functions based on how they were created, by whom, and for what exact purpose. Takeru had a very specific and important purpose in the series, as we are going to discover soon.
Fact #2: Yaga was the one who created Takeru
In case you’ve forgotten, the most skilled creator of Cursed Corpses in the whole lore was Tokyo’s former headmaster, Masamichi Yaga. Yaga has been a pillar of Tokyo’s school for many years until he was later killed on the order of the higher-ups. His specialty was the creation of Cursed Corpses, and he was by far the best in that field. This is why it does not surprise us that Takeru was created by Yaga, and the two of them had a very close bond, with Yaga being a fatherly figure to Takeru, and Takeru caring a lot about his creator. In fact, whenever Yaga was sad or worried for any reason, Takeru was there to cheer him up.
Fact #3: Takeru was based on Kusakabe’s nephew
Before we start, here is a picture for you:
The boy pictured above is actually the real Takeru, the human boy whom the Cursed Corpse was based on. When Yaga created his Cursed Corpse, he modeled it based on the information he had on Takeru’s soul. Takeru had died before, and while the circumstances have not been elaborated upon, the event was a tragedy. Yaga used the information he had, and he created Takeru to be like the real one, a happy and cheerful young boy, which is why Takeru became so important.
Fact #4: Kusakabe’s younger sister is Takeru’s mother
If you’re wondering who Takeru is related to in the series, we also have an answer to that question. Namely, Takeru, while he was still alive, was related to Kusakabe; in fact, he was his nephew, which means that Kusakabe’s younger sister, who was shown in one of the flashbacks (and is possibly the mysterious Usami!), is Takeru’s mother. This is why Kusakabe is so close to Takeru and why Takeru’s story is so closely and intimately related to the story of the Kusakabe family, which is why we are writing about it as well.
Fact #5: Kusakabe’s sister needs Takeru
If you remember this panel, you’ll probably remember what Kusakabe said about his sister, that she “can’t go on living without the past, without Takeru’s support.” This is a fact and this is probably why Yaga created the Cursed Corpse Takeru in the first place; when Kusakabe’s sister first saw the corpse, she was overjoyed and jumped out of her wheelchair to greet her “son” once more. Takeru’s death took a toll on her and she fell into a state of deep depression, so Takeru’s presence is certainly something that helps and explains why this Cursed Corpse is so important.
