There are numerous interesting characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, and although Gege Akutami has shown a lack of care for his own creations from time to time, they are generally one of the series’ strongest aspects. And while we know a lot about them, some stories or characters are still a mystery, which inspired this article. Namely, the most recent episode of Jujutsu Kaisen showed us a total of six vials containing what seem to be developing cursed spirits. Who and what are they?

  • Article Breakdown:
  • The six cursed spirits seen in Choso’s vision are his remaining siblings, the nine unintroduced Cursed Womb: Death Paintings, who never made it to adulthood or childhood in the series and remained in this stage of development.
  • As was later revealed, their names are Noranso (膿爛相), Sho-oso (青瘀相), Tanso (噉相), Sanso (散相), Kotsuso (骨相), and Shoso (焼相).
  • Choso’s remaining siblings have not appeared in the series save for this false memory, where all the siblings – including Yuji Itadori – are actually present in one place.

The cursed spirits in vials are the remaining Cursed Womb: Death Paintings

The most recent episode of Jujutsu Kaisen was focused on the fight between Yuji Itadori and Choso. It was an epic battle in which both of them actually demonstrated just how powerful they were. Yuji gave it his best, and he was, even if only for a short time, very close to victory, but just before he could defeat Choso, the latter used his last trump card and injured Itadori so much that he was unable to continue fighting under such circumstances, as you might assume based on this overview.

So, what happened later? Choso was about to kill Itadori to avenge his brothers, but he suddenly stopped. He missed Yuji and suddenly fell into a crisis manifested by ill-like behavior and his leaving. During this crisis, Choso saw a happy memory of him sitting together at a table during an outdoor picnic. In that memory, which he identified as false, he was with Eso and Kechizu, Yuji Itadori, and six vials of embryo-like cursed spirits inside them.

These six cursed spirits are the six remaining Cursed Womb: Death Paintings 4-9, whose identities have not been revealed at the time, but we finally see what they look like as they are being kept inside the special warehouse in Tokyo. Of course, the memory was false, but it helped us identify Yuji as Choso’s sibling, which also explained Choso’s actions in Shibuya. Before continuing the story, a quick recap of how the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings were created.

Namely, we know that Noritoshi Kamo’s warped experiments on their mother resulted in the birth of Choso and his siblings. Rather than anything else, this was more like torture, yet some 150 years ago, Choso and his siblings died from these heinous experiments. The details were never revealed, but we later found out that Kenjaku fathered them using their mother as a guinea pig, just as he would later use Kaori Itadori, which explained how Yuji was related to Choso and the others. And that is the story of their birth.

Their names have been revealed later in the series

So, we now know what these characters are and how they came to be. But who are they? Well, we cannot identify each individual vial. That much we can confirm, as Akutami never really confirmed that in the first place. We just know that these vials have names and that their names are Noranso (膿爛相), Sho-oso (青瘀相), Tanso (噉相), Sanso (散相), Kotsuso (骨相), and Shoso (焼相), but we cannot tell which name belongs to which vial. We also know that they are paintings 4-9, as Choso, Eso, and Kechizu were Paintings 1-3.

What happened to them? Well, they initially shared the same fate as the first three, with all nine of them being locked inside Tokyo High’s special warehouse. From there, Mahito stole Paintings 1-3, but not 4-9, and Choso would later confirm that they were still being held inside the warehouse. Whether Akutami plans to bring them to life and show them to us remains a mystery, but from the current perspective of someone who has read the manga – unless Akutami decides to do a major turn, we won’t be seeing the remaining six Drath Paintings in the main series.
