Jujutsu Kaisen: What Was Mei Mei’s and Utahime’s Mission?
The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen has just started, with the Gojo’s Past Arc being up first for adaptation. Returning to the past, Akutami will provide us with a brief episode from before the main timeline in which we will see some familiar faces and new characters. Our coverage of the season begins with the first major event of the season, the mission that a much younger Mei Mei and Utahime are sent on in an abandoned mansion. In this article, we are going to explain what exactly their mission was, what happened in the mansion, and how the mission actually ended.
Mei Mei and Utahime were sent on a mission to investigate a haunted mansion in Hamamatsu City. The urban legends surrounding the mansion were numerous, and there were also numerous disappearances associated with it. As they discovered, the mansion was haunted by a large but not overly powerful curse whose innate domain caused people to be trapped in the mansion seemingly forever while also changing the perception of time. After two days, Gojo, Geto, and Ieiri were sent to help them, and Geto used his ability to defeat the Curse.
In the upcoming paragraphs, we will explain what happened inside the cursed mansion in Hamamatsu City, where Mei Mei and Utahime were sent on a mission in the first episode of the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen. We will provide you with the details of the mission, its course, and its consequences, as you will find out all the details surrounding the beginning of the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen. We have to warn you, though, that the article will be full of spoilers, so be careful if you haven’t seen the second season’s first episode.
The cursed mansion in Hamamatsu City was indeed Cursed, and the Curse had a truly intriguing innate domain
After Geto’s anime-exclusive monologue about the nature of their job, the scene shifts to a new mission assigned to Grade 1 sorcerer Mei Mei and Grade 2 sorcerer Utahime Iori; the year is 2006, and it is raining heavily.
They are informed about their mission, which will take place in Hamamatsu City and is associated with an abandoned mansion seemingly filled with paranormal activity. A family used to live there until their suicide, and since then, the mansion has been rotting away with the people from the surrounding parts of town reporting strange activities; even three children have gone missing.
Mei Mei and Utahime are taken to the mansion, and Mei Mei tells Utahime that there is no need for a veil, as she is absolutely certain that the curse is inside the mansion and that they will not have to fight it outside; should the fight leave the mansion’s walls, they will set up a veil at that time. Until then, a veil was not necessary, and Mei Mei was right with her conclusion.
As soon as they came to the mansion’s doors, they discovered that they were unlocked and that a lot of trash had blocked the door, but they managed to enter the mansion, which was horrible.
This was when Mei Mei’s suspicions were confirmed, as both of them felt the curse’s presence inside the mansion. Mei Mei suggested that the two of them split up, and while Utahime wasn’t overly happy with the idea, she ultimately agreed, with both of them heading their own way.
We then follow Utahime, who looks in every room in the mansion but finds nothing. As she enters the final room at the end of the hallway, we see two beds with clothes on and Utahime going down to see if there’s anything under the beds.
As she observes some rats nibbling on something, the room door closes. As the rats run, scared of her flashlight, she also runs out of the room and is greeted by Mei Mei in the hallway, although it is now obvious that it is not the same hallway, as her room is somewhere in the middle of the hallway.
As the two of them realize that, they also realize that the curse must have trapped them in their innate domain and that the mansion seems like an endless maze as they always end up in the same place, no matter how much they walk.
As they seemingly figure out the structure of the maze using garbage left on the mansion’s floor, they also devise a plan to escape it by running fast, but in opposite directions, towards each other. As they began executing their plan, the whole mansion suddenly started to move and flew up in the air, with Utahime and Mei Mei landing on the ground outside the mansion.
As they try to figure out what happened, a smiling Satoru Gojo appears and tells them that he has come to their rescue; Suguru Geto is also there, as is Shoko Ieiri, whom Utahime is very happy to see.
As Mei Mei and Utahime wonder why Gojo is there to help them, Gojo explains that what seemed to be just several hours to them was actually two days in real-time and that the three of them were sent to help them because a lot of time had passed; this is when they realized that the Curse also altered the victims’ perception of time.
At that moment, from the ground, where the mansion used to be, a large curse appeared, looking like a giant potato, but it was soon swallowed up by one of Geto’s curses, who plans on absorbing it, as he usually does with curses, because he can then, later, use their powers. And this is how the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen started, but things would soon become a lot more grim.
