Jujutsu Kaisen: What Is Q?

The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen has just started with Gojo’s Past Arc. The whole season and this small “flashback arc” promises to be highly entertaining, and we are looking forward to more episodes as they come. Now, we know that Toji Fushiguro, whom we have already written about here on Fiction Horizon, is going to be the principal villain in the series, but he is not the only villain, as two seemingly powerful groups are going to be present in the story as secondary villains. Both want to overthrow the modern jujutsu society, and they don’t care much about how they will do it. In this article, we will tell you about one of them, Q, whose existence was confirmed in the first episode of Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Q is an organization of seemingly powerful curse users who do not agree with how the current jujutsu society is run, and they want to overthrow it. Kokun and Bayer are the organization’s only known members, and it has since been disbanded, but it played a major role in Gojo’s Past Arc. Not much is known about the organization, as it played a relatively minor role in comparison to its rivals, the Time Vessel Association.
As we have said, this article is going to focus on one of the two secondary villains from the Gojo’s Past Arc, the organization known as Q. We are going to bring you all the known information about this group and tell you about its role, about its goals, about its members, and what happened to them in the series. Be careful, though, as we have a duty to inform you that this article is going to contain a lot of spoilers from the manga, so you have to decide for yourselves how you want to approach it.
Q was a minor organization, but its impact cannot be underestimated
As we have already said, the principal antagonist of the first part of Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen is going to be Toji Fushiguro, who will, despite his lack of jujutsu powers, be a very formidable and dangerous foe, even for the likes of Satoru Gojo, who is thought to be the most powerful character in the series. But, aside from Toji, two villainous organizations will also serve as the antagonists in the arc, and one of them is Q.
Out of the two organizations, Q is definitely the lesser one, and its role is much smaller when compared to the role that the Time Vessel Association had. Again, both of them come second to Toji Fushiguro, but from what we know from the manga itself, Akutami has certainly invested more time in shaping the story of the Time Vessel Association.
But, as we’ve also said, Q’s impact on the plot cannot be underestimated, and they have also been labeled as a threat, which was visible in the first episode of the new seas. So, what is Q, and what do they actually represent?
As we have said in the introduction, Q is an organization of curse users. We don’t know much about them, but we know they are not satisfied with how things are playing out in the modern jujutsu society, which is why they want to overthrow it.
They are also rivals of the second organization, the Time Vessel Association, who worship Master Tengen. Namely, Q wanted to stop Master Tengen from resetting their cursed technique, as they believed that they would, in that case, become enemies of humanity, which wasn’t really their goal, as it seemed. They were founded sometime around 2006, which is when the plot of Gojo’s Past Arc takes place.
Since they believed that the return of Master Tengen would be a threat, they wanted to kill Riko Amanai, the girl who was designated as the Star Plasma Vessel at the time. Although we are going to do a separate article on the Star Plasma Vessel as a concept, we need to tell you – in short – that the Star Plasma Vessel was an exceptionally important concept related to Master Tengen, as it enhanced their Immortality power and if Master Tengen would merge with the Star Plasma Vessel, they would, once again, come to life.
This is why Q wanted to assassinate Riko Amanai, as it was a pivotal moment in the execution of their plans.
But, as it seemed, this assassination attempt was actually their downfall. Namely, as the location of the Star Plasma Vessel was leaked, Q managed to get a hold of the information rather quickly, and they proceeded to go to the location so that they can take care of Riko.
Kokun, a powerful member of Q, decided to kill Riko by throwing her out of the window of the building she was hiding in after an explosion occurred near the top of the building. But, as luck would have it, Suguru Geto, who was still a student at the time, was there, and he effectively saved Riko from falling, prompting Kokun to engage him in a fight.
Satoru Gojo, Geto’s friend and classmate, was observing all the commotion from down below when he was attacked by Bayer, who was Q’s most elite fighter. And while Bayer and Kokun seemed like dangerous foes, they had no clue that Geto and Gojo would be able to counter them easily, although Bayer did say that he knew about Gojo’s reputation.
Be that as it may, Geto easily defeated Kokun, whereas Gojo mopped the floor with Bayer. Kokun and Bayer were dead, while Riko was saved. Interestingly enough, the rival Time Vessel Association members were observing the fight alongside Fushiguro, but that will be a separate topic.
So, what happened to Q after this incident? After losing two of its strongest and most prominent members, the organization disbanded and ceased to be a threat in the series anymore.
