Jujutsu Kaisen: Who Was Mei Mei Talking To?

As fans of Jujutsu Kaisen will know, despite her overall popularity, Mei Mei is one of the most controversial characters in the whole series. She did not appear much, and she was always on the side of the heroes, but her unconventional morals, as well as the “episode” with Ui Ui, her younger brother, made Mei Mei a very interesting and talked-about figure. In this article, we are going to talk about the hotel scene, not about Ui Ui, but rather about the sudden phone call that Mei Mai received, which seemed to be quite important. Who called Mei Mei? Mei Mei’s phone call seemed important

Not long after Kenjaku initiated the Shibuya Incident, Mei Mei, Ui Ui, and Itadori searched for Gojo, but they soon split up. Mei Mei and Ui Ui soon found Pseudo-Geto, who forced them to battle the Smallpox Deity. Although it appeared that the Smallpox Deity would destroy them, Mei Mei was able to cast out the strong curse with a little assistance from her brother, who utilized his (limited) abilities to divert the powerful cursed spirit. Following that, the two of them were prepared to confront Kenjaku.

However, things did not go according to plan, as Ui Ui had to teleport them out of Japan using his Innate Technique, Spatial Transference, and they ended up staying in a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur. And this is the place where the notorious “bed scene” happened. Now, we’ve already analyzed that scene, so we won’t be going over it again – all you need to know here is that it was interrupted when Mei Mei received a phone call.

She was quite surprised that she got a call back and immediately answered it. Mei Mei apologized for calling so late, but we then found out that it was morning where the caller was calling from. Mei Mei then told the caller that they should sell everything they owned in Japan before the big calamity, referring to Kenjaku’s plan. She then commented how all the major economies would be affected for sure since Japan was still one of the three biggest economies in the world.

The caller thanked Mei Mei, but she replied that there was no need for that, adding that they should just keep her on the inside as usual; before hanging up, she told them that she looked forward to working with them again. And that is how the call ended.

The caller was never identified

Now, while the contents of this call are known and important, what interests most fans is whom Mei Mei was talking to. Now, the screen of her cellphone at the time of calling was revealed, but it only said: 非通知設定. Most readers probably can’t read Japanese, but we can tell you that this message appears on Japanese phones when the caller has hidden their number. So, if the caller doesn’t want you to know who is calling you, he will activate this feature, and your phone screen will show the above-written message. So, sadly, no – this is not the name of the caller.

So, who was that? Well, we have very little information to work with. We know that the caller was somewhere where it was morning, and since we know that it was roughly 10:30 PM in Kuala Lumpur when Mei Mei received the call, the only place in the world where it was morning was North America (possibly South America, but that’s a stretch). The caller was also rich and influential, probably with government ties, as we found out that he was giving information to Mei Mei, just like she was giving information to him.

Sadly, such a character has not been identified in Jujutsu Kaisen, so we cannot even take a guess. Some fans suggested that it was Miguel, but we can’t really fathom why he would be in North America and how he could have such detailed insider info. So, by all means, the identity of this caller will remain a secret for the time being.
