Agatha All Along’ is the next eagerly anticipated installment in the MCU. This series, described as a blend of drama, horror, and musical elements, follows Agatha Harkness as she attempts to regain her magic after being imprisoned by the Scarlet Witch.

The show will introduce several new characters, including the Salem Seven, and explore the Witches’ Road, both of which are crucial for the future of magic in the MCU.

Recently, the first trailer for the show was released, confirming that Joe Locke is portraying Billy Kaplan, also known as Wiccan in the comics. Locke’s character is described as “a gay teen with a dark sense of humor.”

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone UK, the ‘Heartstopper’ star discussed the significance of his character’s sexual orientation in the show:

The way it’s explored in the show is very truthful and very positive. His sexuality is just one part of the character.

For those unfamiliar with the source material, Billy Kaplan is the reincarnated soul of Scarlet Witch’s son, William, in the comics. He is an exceptionally talented magic user known by the alias Wiccan and is expected to join the MCU’s Young Avengers in the future.

Billy’s sexual orientation is a significant aspect of his character in the comics, where he famously has a relationship with Teddy Altman, a Skrull/Kree hybrid also known as Hulkling.

Locke also hinted at numerous twists, turns, and comedic elements in the show:

It’s a dark comedy about witches. It’s not what you would usually expect from a Marvel series. […]We gather a coven and a very unlikely group of women and me — which is my life in general — get on the Witches’ Road. Then magic, fun, and mystery prevails. […]It’s definitely darker. It’s actually a little bit scary, which is good. I think it’s a great start for a new journey within the MCU of exploring different types of characters that aren’t like Iron Man or Captain America. It’s a new type of superhero, which I think is exciting.
