Marvel Studios Exec Confirms the Status of ‘Nova’ & ‘Ironheart’ Projects in the MCU
We know that Marvel Studios had to adjust their plans due to a rough year at the box office. Both ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ and ‘The Marvels’ didn’t perform well with audiences, prompting Bob Iger to acknowledge issues with recent quality. Rumors suggest upcoming projects like ‘Captain Marvel 3’ and ‘Ant-Man 4’ might be canceled, while ‘Eternals 2’ is said to be undergoing significant changes.
Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, recently shared details about upcoming MCU projects in an interview with Phase Zero. He mentioned that season three of ‘X-Men ’97’ is in development, despite Beau DeMayo’s departure before the second season premiere. Winderbaum also confirmed that a ‘Nova’ project is in the early stages, but couldn’t say if it’ll focus on Sam Alexander or Richard Rider.
We have a new system behind-the-scenes at Marvel Studios. We’re more like a traditional studio now. We’re developing more than we actually will produce. So there are plans to develop ‘Nova.’
Winderbaum concluded by expressing his desire for a ‘Nova’ show in the future. However, he hinted that being in early development doesn’t guarantee it’ll actually happen.
The host also inquired about the ‘Ironheart’ show, which has faced numerous delays and setbacks over the years.
In all honesty, there was a mandate to kind of create as much as we could for Disney+ as quickly as we could, and then, there was a shift. Al of Sudden we have to start spreading our release dates out. So, that really accounts for most of the delays. We’re using that time, you know, we’re not sitting idle. So, it’s like, it kind of stays in the oven. You can bake certain things a little more. It’s only going to make things better. But most of it its just shrapnel from the business.
So, Brad confirmed that the show is still in development but has faced further delays as they continue to refine it. This aligns with Iger’s emphasis on quality over quantity in the MCU, leading to spaced-out release dates. That’s why ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is the sole movie slated for 2024.
Regarding the ‘Nova’ project confirmation, it’s intriguingly timed with recent rumors of Ryan Gosling’s involvement in an undisclosed MCU role. Speculation has circulated for months that he might portray Nova, adding to the intrigue.
