Marvel Animation Head Addresses the Situation Surrounding ‘X-Men ‘97’ Creator Beau Demayo
A few days ago, there was news that Beau DeMayo, the creator of ‘X-Men ’97’, got fired. His company email got shut down suddenly without any warning. The studio didn’t say why he was fired, and DeMayo and his representatives haven’t said anything either. DeMayo deleted his social media accounts and hasn’t explained why he got fired, just a week before the new animated show was supposed to premiere.
After this news came out, some people in the industry shared their opinions and rumors about what might have happened to lead to such a surprising turn in DeMayo’s career. Some say DeMayo was really hard to work with and had a difficult personality. There are also rumors about problems with his work on the scripts for ‘X-Men ’97’ and ‘Blade’, but apparently, those weren’t the main reasons he got fired. Now, Winterbaum, the head of Marvel Animation, has finally given a statement to Entertainment Weekly about the situation, after both the studio and DeMayo’s representative stayed quiet before.
I can’t talk about the details, but I can say that Beau had real respect and passion for these characters and wrote what I think are excellent scripts that really the rest of the team were able to draw inspiration from [to] build this amazing show that’s on screen.
Winterbaum also rejected the idea that DeMayo was fired, stating:
I don’t. ‘We parted ways’ is the best way I could say.
‘X-Men ’97’ will debut with its first two episodes on March 20. Even before the first season airs, the show has already been renewed for a second season. Got something to share? Drop your thoughts in the comments section below!
