Miyazaki’s ‘Future Boy Conan’ Is Coming to Cineverse’s RetroCrush in April

For many anime fans, the Future Boy Conan series is a timeless classic. The original series aired iz 1978 and consists of 26 episodes. Subsequently, two anime films were produces, as well as a 24-episode sequel series which aired from 1999 to 2000.
The series is based on the sci-fi YA novel The Incredible Tide by Alexander Key, and was directed by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki for the Nippon Animation studio back in the late 1970s.
Miyazaki’s directorial debut instantly became a classic, and while it is not one of his best-known works, it is a popular children’s series and a testament of Miyazaki’s talent. The series has been available on GKIDS, but starting this month, it is going to have a new home.
The anime series is now considered a classic and a prime example of old children’s anime, which is why many fans still love it. Western fans could stream the new, restored (4K) version of the anime on GKIDS since November 2001 but that is about to change.
Namely, it has been confirmed that Future Boy Conan is going to a new home, as Cineverse’s RetroCrush streaming service has confirmed that it has acquired the streaming rights for the anime from GKIDS.
The stream will begin on April 18, 2025 and episodes will air weekly, although there is a special surprise for some subscribers. Namely, the The free, ad-supported, streaming television (FAST) linear channel for RetroCrush will air a Future Boy Conan marathon during the “A Very Hayao Miyazaki Earth Day” marathon on April 20, 22, and 27 from 8:00 a.m. EDT to 4:00 a.m. EDT on the next day.
We hope that the fans will enjoy the series, but that it will also attract a new generation of fans in North America.
