Netflix’s New Mystery Thriller Just Pulled Off the Biggest Streaming Win of the Year

Netflix subscribers have a new obsession on their hands, and it comes wrapped in secrets, lies, and a desperate father’s search for the truth. The streamer has built its reputation in recent years on twisty crime dramas that audiences can binge in a weekend, and this latest release fits squarely into that tradition while somehow still managing to surprise everyone watching the numbers roll in.

The series in question is ‘I Will Find You,’ the streamer’s latest adaptation of one of Harlan Coben’s novels. It stars Sam Worthington as David Burroughs, a father serving a life sentence for murdering his own son five years ago. He maintains his innocence, but when his sister in law Rachel, played by Britt Lower, visits him with evidence that his child may still be alive, he uncovers a web of deception that takes him on the run from prison to discover the truth.

Now the numbers behind that premise are in, and they are staggering. According to Netflix’s internal data, the thriller drew 24 million views worldwide for the week of June 15 to 21, after premiering on June 18. With a running time of just under five and a half hours, the eight episode series racked up 131.7 million hours of watch time across the globe, numbers that instantly made it the talk of the streaming world.

Netflix’s ‘I Will Find You’ Opens to a Split Critical Verdict, and the Discourse Is Already Heating Up

That kind of debut does not happen by accident. The previous high mark for a Netflix series premiere in 2026 had been 19.9 million views for ‘His & Hers’ in January, and ‘I Will Find You’ topped the TV charts for the week of June 15 to 21, easily clearing that bar. The show entered the Top 10 in 92 countries and topped the charts in 60 of them, including the United States.

Part of the appeal clearly comes from the cast bringing the emotional stakes to life, and the performers say that connection runs deeper than the script. Lower, who plays Worthington’s sister in law in the series, recently told Decider that all of the actors in the series have young kids of their own, and that she, Erin Richards, Milo Ventimiglia and Worthington bonded over that shared experience while filming. She added that at the core of the story is the question of what someone will do for their family, especially for a young person.

The show’s existence is also a story in itself, since the series began coming together before Coben had even finished writing the source novel. In an interview with ScreenRant, Coben explained that he pitched the concept to showrunner Robert Hull while he had just started the book and hadn’t actually written it yet, and Hull was instantly hooked on the idea before a single chapter existed.

This is hardly the first time Coben’s name has driven huge numbers for Netflix. ‘Fool Me Once’ became one of Netflix’s most watched titles of 2024 with more than 98 million views in its first 91 days, while ‘Run Away’ spent four consecutive weeks on the streamer’s global top 10 and earned 38 million views, hitting the top 10 in 84 countries. Netflix is already developing an English language version of Coben’s novel ‘The Woods,’ along with a long awaited adaptation of his Myron Bolitar book series.

With reviews split between critics and audiences but the viewership numbers impossible to ignore, ‘I Will Find You’ has cemented itself as the biggest swing of Netflix’s year so far. Did David Burroughs’ desperate search for his son hook you in as much as it hooked millions of other viewers this week?
