Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor Warsuit Is Fully Practical in ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ and the ARGUS Logo Is a Big Deal
Few DC villain accessories carry as much weight in the comics as Lex Luthor’s iconic power armor. The Warsuit first debuted in 1983’s ‘Action Comics’ issue 544 and has since become one of the most recognizable symbols of the character, representing his hunger to match Superman on a purely physical level. Originally designed by the late George Pérez for the Kenner Super Powers toy line in the 1980s, the green-and-purple armor was ported over to the comics and has remained a mainstay for the character ever since.
When James Gunn announced ‘Man of Tomorrow’ back in September 2025, he paired the reveal with Jim Lee artwork depicting Nicholas Hoult’s Lex standing fully armored alongside David Corenswet’s Superman. That tease suggested the suit would factor into the film, but it remained unclear just how practical the build would actually be. Fans have had to wait, and the answer has now arrived in spectacular fashion.
Gunn shared a set photo of Hoult wearing the comics-accurate green armor with the caption “Fit check. Live from the set of Man of Tomorrow,” confirming the Warsuit is “100 percent practical” and that the actor “can move incredibly well” in it. In follow-up posts on Threads, Gunn described the suit as “unbelievably mobile” and noted that in the film’s version, Lex has added unbreakable Lexiglas to the dome surrounding his head. For fans who have spent years watching CGI-heavy superhero armor dominate the genre, the news that this iconic piece of villain gear exists as a tangible, wearable build is genuinely exciting.
Beyond the practical construction, one detail in the first look image has set the fan community buzzing. An ARGUS logo is visible on the chestplate of the armor, suggesting the organization, rather than LuthorCorp, is behind the suit and that Lex is working under their umbrella. Those who watched ‘Peacemaker’ season 2 will recognize the connection immediately, as Lex made a cameo appearance in that series when Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. approached him at Belle Reve prison seeking help with alternate dimensions, ultimately opening a direct channel between Luthor and Flag. The ARGUS branding on the suit implies that deal has had lasting consequences.
With ARGUS behind the armor rather than LuthorCorp, it appears Lex may be operating under the organization’s authority, with Flag potentially being the one who gets him out of prison ahead of the film’s central conflict. That conflict will pit Superman and Lex in an uneasy alliance against Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger, with the two adversaries forced together by a threat larger than either of them. The presence of the Warsuit confirms Luthor will not merely be playing strategist from the sidelines this time around.
This will mark the first appearance of the Warsuit on the big screen, having previously appeared only in live-action television through ‘Supergirl’ and ‘Superman and Lois.’ The new design features a dome-style helmet, glowing lights, heavy shoulder plating, and a silhouette that hews closely to its source material while feeling modern enough for a major studio release. Production on ‘Man of Tomorrow’ is currently underway, with the film scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 9, 2027.
The ARGUS connection alone raises enough questions to fuel months of speculation, so share your theories on what Lex’s arrangement with the organization actually means for his arc in ‘Man of Tomorrow’ in the comments.
