One Piece: Why Did Usopp Leave the Crew? The Real Reason Revealed!

If a Straw Hat crew member leaves the crew without Luffy’s permission, Luffy does his best to recruit them back. This is how things work among the Straw Hat Pirates, as they are one of the most closely connected pirate crews in One Piece. They are not a crew with many members, which probably explains why they are like a family. So far, several members have left the crew – willingly and forcedly – and among them is Usopp, one of the crew’s most loyal members. In this article, we will explain what happened here and why Usopp left the crew.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Usopp was one of Luffy’s most loyal crew members, and he is among those who’ve been with him the longest. Despite his personality, his loyalty to Luffy and his friends should never be doubted.
  • When the Going Merry, the crew’s original ship, was damaged beyond repair, Luffy informed the crew that they would be leaving it, and Usopp could not accept that decision, as he was tied to the ship. He then fought Luffy, and he “left” the crew after losing.
  • Usopp never left the crew and was at their side dressed up as Sogeking, and the disguise was so obvious that everyone saw through it (except for Luffy and Chopper). Later, though, Usopp formally “returned” to the crew.

The reasons behind Usopp’s decision to leave the crew are strange at best

As we have said, Usopp is one of Luffy’s longest-serving crew members, and his leaving the crew was something that seemed quite unlikely, but it did happen, and here is how and why.

When Luffy informs him that they are separating from the Going Merry because he has become irreparably damaged, Usopp rejects this decision and decides to leave the crew by challenging Luffy to a duel with the Going Merry as a reward. Although unexpected, watching Usopp overwhelm Luffy at the start of their battle was quite exciting. Despite this, he is defeated by his erstwhile friend in a single strike because he was already quite frail before the fight.

The Franky Family then takes Usopp hostage, after his defeat because they want to use him as bait to entice Luffy away from the Going Merry. Usopp will inform Franky that due to the disagreement over the Going Merry, he is no longer a crew member. This anecdote will move Franky, and he will feel a surge of affection for Usopp.

Later, Usopp declines to assist the crew in saving Robin, but a short while later, a man who claims to be a friend of Usopp and wishes to save Robin reappears carrying the Sogeking mask. Chopper and Luffy only obscured Usopp from view when donning his Sogeking mask. Usopp takes part in the battle with the two giants once they reach the Enies Lobby’s big door.

Usopp notices their cries and explains that they did not need to fight for the World Government because its leaders—whom they believed were in prison—are actually on Little Garden Island. This is after the latter is conquered. The two giants then decide to support the crew’s cause. Usopp and the rest of the crew proceed through the court island and onto the courthouse’s roof.

Soon later, on Luffy’s command, he destroys the World Government flag at the top of the Justice Tower. Usopp ventures off his own after entering the Justice Tower to locate one of the keys needed to release Robin from her Sea Stone handcuffs. He is up against Jabra, who will soon defeat him. Usopp would not have survived without Zoro’s assistance when he and Kaku fell from the floor above.

Usopp accidentally gets chained to Zoro during this two-on-two battle. They will then beg Chopper to locate the key so they may escape. Usopp must face Jabra once more after being set free, and he was once again on the verge of death but was saved thanks to Sanji’s intervention. Later, Usopp is on the Justice Tower’s roof and fires at all the Marines to protect Robin and Franky as they cross the Bridge of Hesitation.

Then, he sends every key that was retrieved from CP9 agents. As Luffy completes his battle with Lucci, the crew must cope with the Buster Call and the elite Marine squad once they are on the Bridge of Hesitation. Usopp will speak to Luffy after he has been vanquished and can no longer move in an attempt to get him to move, but in futile. Usopp will be one of the first people to hear Going Merry’s voice calling for help.

Usopp attends the Going Merry’s burial in the role of Sogeking. Usopp returns to Water 7 and departs independently since he is no longer a part of the crew. He is always considering what to say to his old friends to convince them to allow him to rejoin the gang. Sanji will still catch him off guard when he informs the others of his plans. Except for Zoro’s comment that he won’t be allowed to rejoin his teammates until he apologizes, everyone is happy that Usopp can return.

The crew of the Straw Hats’ new ship, Thousand Sunny, waits for Usopp as it prepares to set sail. Vice Admiral Garp will attempt to halt them so they will be compelled to weigh anchor. Usopp becomes alarmed upon seeing the boat depart and goes to apologize while in tears. Then Luffy will extend a hand to him so that he can rejoin them.
