20 Most Memorable Quotes From Fantastic Beasts

Potterheads worldwide, rejoice, as the next chapter of the Hogwarts universe is about to hit the big screen with Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. For me, the first couple of movies weren’t as great as the original Harry Potter series, but certainly not bad. In fact, we’ve heard some iconic quotes from various characters.
To hype us up for more young Dumbledore and Newt Scamander, here are the 20 most memorable quotes from the Fantastic Beasts movies. I’ll include the quotes from the Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore official trailers.
Most Memorable Quotes From Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them
“Newt. I don’t think I’m dreaming… I ain’t got the brains to make this up.”
When Jacob Kowalski – a Muggle, or No-Maj, whichever you prefer – first met Newt and saw magic, he thought it was all a dream. But then Newt’s Fantastic Beasts started coming out, and a whole lot of magic transpired right before Jacob.
He says to Newt that he thinks he’s not really dreaming, and when Newt asks him what gave it away, Kowalski hilariously answers that he doesn’t have the brains to make it up. Jacob is one of my favorite characters from the new movies, and I can’t wait to see him wield a wand himself in the newest Fantastic Beasts film.
“Yes, Mr. Kowalski. For they’re currently in alien terrain surrounded by millions of the most vicious creatures on the planet: humans.”
This quote from Newt Scamander shows you just how much he loves his creatures. When they escaped, he instructed Jacob Kowalski to help find them before getting hurt. Jacob asks, confused: “When ‘they’ get hurt?”
That’s when Newt delivers this epic quote – despite having the most amazing magical creatures right inside his briefcase; Newt still believes that the real vicious, dangerous creatures – are humans. With all the wars, hate, and crime we witness every day, I can’t say I don’t agree with Newt.
“Oh, no, no, of course I have. I love house-elves. My uncle’s a house-elf.”
I laughed so hard at so many Jacob Kowalski quotes in the film – especially this one. When they visit a seemingly empty wizard bar, he asks how one gets a drink there. After that, a beer flies into his hand off the shelf, confusing Jacob profoundly. A house-elf reveals himself, asking Jacob: “What? Ain’t you ever seen a house-elf before?”
That’s when Kowalski delivered this epic quote that had me laughing out loud. His uncle, a house-elf… That would be one big elf, I believe!
“Not really, no. I annoy people.”
That’s not true, Mr. Scamander! We love you! This quote came when New talked to Jacob and said, “People like you, don’t they, Mr. Kowalski?” To which Jacob responds that he’s sure people like Newt, too.
That’s when Newt honestly answers with this particular quote. People never seemed to enjoy his company and found him annoying, which is ultimately why he chose his creatures and found companionship with them.
“Because I like you. Because you’re my friend. And I’ll never forget how you helped me, Jacob.”
We all know that Muggles get Obliviated after they witness magic. However, Newt decided to keep Jacob Kowalski around for a long time, until eventually, they decided to wipe his memory in the end, too.
And, he’s fine with that. Talking to Queenie, Jacob says that he understands that it’s for the best but asks Newt why he kept him around in the first place. That’s when Newt delivers this awesome quote that made me love Scamander even more.
“People are easiest to read when they are hurting.”
Queenie is one of the few witches and wizards that have the ability to read other people’s minds. Some are tougher to read, but she realized one thing throughout her life – people are the easiest to read when they are hurting. Pain makes us predictable, open and exposed.
“Well, the first symptom would be flames out of his anus.”
One of the things that make Newt Scamander such a likable character is the social awkwardness behind him. The guy just doesn’t have any reservations. So, when talking about Jacob Kowalski’s reaction to a Murtlap bite, Newt reiterates that they aren’t really dangerous.
If they were, then Jacob would have more serious symptoms. I mean – REALLY serious.
“My philosophy is that worrying means you suffer twice.”
Jacob and Newt are preparing for an encounter with one of Scamander’s creatures; they need to use Jacob as bait. So, while Newt is strapping body protection onto Jacob, he tells the Muggle there’s nothing to worry about. Of course, Jacob doesn’t believe him, so he asks if anyone ever believed him when Newt told them not to worry.
That’s when Newt shares his awesome philosophy with us – if you worry, you just suffer twice. However, I don’t think Jacob thought about suffering even once, so this quote is, combined with Kowalski’s reaction, was one of the funniest moments in the entire film.
Most Memorable Quotes From Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald
“My brothers. My sisters. The clock is ticking faster. My dream, we who live for truth, for love, the moment has come to take our rightful place in the world where we wizards are free. Join me, or die.”
Gellert Grindelwald, like many villains, has a strong ability to manipulate and control others. He has strong beliefs about muggles living freely and wizards hiding in shadows. He wants to reverse the positions, and he gives everyone a choice.
Either you join him in his plan, or he’ll kill you. I mean, it’s really not much of a choice then, is it? It tells you all you need to know about Grindelwald’s character.
“You’re too good, Newt. You never met a monster you couldn’t love.”
This quote got me right in the feels. It was an epic take on Newt Scamander from Leta Lestrange. She says to Newt that his biggest issue is being too good of a person. Even if someone – or something – is an atrocious monster, Newt will still manage to see the good inside of them. That’s just who he is and why he ultimately fell in love with his Fantastic Beasts.
“It has to be you.”
At the time of this dialogue between Albus Dumbledore and Newt Scamander, we still don’t know the truth about Dumbledore and Grindelwald’s past. There’s a reason why Albus couldn’t go against Gellert himself – a blood pact made before when the two were together.
So, when speaking to Newt, Dumbledore reiterated to Newt that he couldn’t move against Grindelwald. ‘It has to be you’ clearly resonated with Scamander, as he ended up doing exactly what Dumbledore hoped he would.
“Magic blooms only in rare souls. Still, we must skulk in shadows. But the old ways serve us no longer.”
This was yet another quote from Grindelwald, explaining his frustration with the way the wizarding world is living its life. Magic is rare. Only a few among millions have that rare, powerful gift. As such, Gellert sees them as superior, yet they hide and ‘skulk’ in the shadows.
If he has any say in it – things have to change. It was an epic quote that still didn’t get to its conclusion. And, as it seems right now, The Secrets of Dumbledore is just the beginning of trouble for Newt, Jacob, and the team.
“I’ll think of something.”
One of the best things about Newt Scamander is his impulsiveness to do the right thing. Even when it’s hard and complicated, and Newt doesn’t really know what to do, he still persists.
This particular quote depicted that perfectly when Tina Goldstein asks him: “What are you gonna do?” New simply answers, “I’ll think of something,” and proceeds with action – because it’s the right thing to do. The guy is awesome.
“Muggles are not lesser.”
The whole philosophy of Gellert Grindelwald revolves around Muggles being the “lesser kind” than wizards and witches. That is why he wants them subdued, living underneath the wizards instead of above.
Well, Albus Dumbledore sees it differently – he doesn’t think Muggles are any lesser than witches and wizards. Just because they were born without the ability to hone magic doesn’t mean they are worthless. One must see the worth in others for what they are alone, not how they compare to others.
“Do you know why I admire you, Newt? You do not seek power. You simply ask, ‘Is a thing right?’”
This is yet another quote from Albus Dumbledore that perfectly sums up who Newt Scamander is and how he lives his life. No matter how hard things get, no matter how close to power he is, Newt will never reach out to grasp the power.
All he cares about when deciding on what to do is asking if it’s the right thing to do. Everything else sort of falls into place. If everyone in the world had the same attitude as Mr. Scamander, the world would be a phenomenal place.
“I don’t do sides.”
This is probably my favorite quote from Newt Scamander in this entire franchise so far. When talking to his brother about the events soon to happen, Theseus tells Newt that, eventually, the time is coming when Newt will have to pick a side.
That’s when Newt answers with this epic quote – he doesn’t do sides. He only does right and wrong. If doing something wrong just for the sake of choosing a side, he won’t do it. He will always do the right thing, regardless of the consequences.
“Having to work in an office, sir.”
Everybody has fears. The important thing is to know how to brush them off when the time comes. While Albus Dumbledore was a professor at Hogwarts, we see a sequence where he teaches his students the Riddikulus charm against the Boggart – a creature that takes the form of our worst fears.
It was Newt’s turn, and the Boggart turned into a… desk and a chair? We learn that what young Newt feared the most is “having to work in an office.” It was a hilarious sequence that tells you all you need to know about Newt and why he chose to search and look after his Beasts.
Most Memorable Quotes From Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore [Trailers]
“The world as we know it is coming undone. Things that seem unimaginable today will seem inevitable tomorrow. Should you agree to do what I ask, you’ll have to trust me, even when every instinct tells you not to.”
If you think that things were tough for Newt and the crew, just wait to see what awaits in the third film of the prequel Harry Potter franchise. Judging by Dumbledore’s monologue from the trailer, things will get really tough, really fast.
Luckily, Albus is Albus, and you better believe he has a great plan to win. And, we know that he’s prepared to do anything for the greater good. Like, getting his friend to kill him, knowing that it’s the only way to make Voldemort vulnerable from the inside. I can’t wait for the film, honestly. I think Jude Law will be awesome, and we’ll see Eddie Redmayne grow as Newt.
“There’s nothing you can do to stop me.”
After some controversy – righteous or not – the producers decided to switch Johnny Depp and recast Grindelwald. I thought it would be a disastrous move because – who could replace Depp? Fortunately, they took Mads Mikkelsen, so I can’t be mad – Mads rocks.
However, I think this quote from the trailer might blow up in Grindelwald’s face really soon. I wouldn’t put Gellert Grindelwald and Tom Riddle in the same sentence as dark villains, and Tom lost to Dumbledore. I’m sure the greatest wizard ever will destroy Gellert, too – with some ‘fantastic’ help, if I may add.
“Our war with the Muggles begins today!”
This is yet another quote from Grindelwald featured in the trailer. We see him in a much more serious, determined manner. And, I have to say, I think Mikkelsen will ace the role. This will be an epic battle not just between the two powerful wizards and their groups but two phenomenal actors, Jude Law, and Mads.
