‘Rise of the Beasts’: Who Is Mirage? What Happened to Him?

Share:

There were a lot of different new characters introduced in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and we all know that the spotlight shifted away from Bumblebee and Optimus Prime a bit to focus more on a new Autobot named Mirage, who became friends with a human named Noah Diaz. Of course, Mirage worked closely with Noah in their quest to stop the Terrorcons from using the Transwarp Key against them, meaning he had to go up against the powerful evil-doer named Scourge. So, who is Mirage, and what happened to him?

Mirage is an Autobot that can transform into a 1993 Porsche but can transform into other types of vehicles, such as a Lamborghini, a Ferrari, and even a delivery van. He has many unique abilities, including the ability to create illusions and give parts of himself. Mirage presumably died in the encounter with Scourge.

The human-Autobot relationship has always been one of the most important aspects of the Transformers storyline. Mirage took the role of Bumblebee in this movie to become the Cybertronian that befriended a human being. So, with that said, let’s look at who Mirage is and what happened to him in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

Mirage’s Background Explained

The release of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts allowed us to see new characters taking centerstage in what seems to be a reboot prequel of the entire Transformers franchise. Of course, while there is no arguing against the fact that Optimus Prime and Bumblebee are still two of the most iconic Autobots in the franchise, one other character took the spotlight away from them in this movie. We are talking about Mirage, one of the newest Autobots in Rise of the Beasts.

Before we get to Mirage, looking at Noah Diaz’s background before learning more about this new Autobot is important. Noah is a former soldier who fell in hard times due to how difficult it was for him to get a job as he didn’t have the best people skills while still serving in the US Army. In that regard, he had to take up a job involving stealing a valuable 1993 Porsche as he needed the money for his young brother, who was suffering from a potentially terminal illness.

Noah, however, got entangled with the Autobots when the signal of the Transwarp Key simultaneously beamed while he was trying to steal the Porsche. It turned out that this Porsche was a Cybertronian Autobot that Optimus Prime was trying to contact so that they could rendezvous and find a way to get their hands on the Transwarp Key. As such, after a serious car chase with the police, Noah learned of the existence of the Autobots as he was inside Mirage when he was on his way to meet up with Optimus and the others. And it was during the car chase Noah learned that Mirage had a unique ability that allowed him to create illusions of himself.

Who Created the Autobots?

While Optimus didn’t like the idea that Mirage got a human involved in this mess, considering that Prime was yet to trust humanity then, Mirage convinced him that Noah could be useful because he could steal the Transwarp Key for them. Optimus, of course, had serious issues with Mirage due to his playful and somewhat wacky nature. That was why he was unsure of his plan. Noah agreed to steal the key when Mirage convinced him that he could sell him as a Lamborghini or a Ferrari after getting his hands on the key.

In that regard, Noah and Mirage formed a good friendship that allowed them to work together well. Before they departed for Peru to get their hands on the second half of the Transwarp Key, Mirage eavesdropped on the conversation between Noah and his younger brother, Kris. When Kris learned that something like Mirage existed, he told the Autobot to look after his brother, and that was when Kris secretly gave him a radio that they used to communicate with one another.

Mirage, of course, tried his best to keep Noah safe as he showcased another new ability. He could take a few parts of his body and give it to somewhat so that this person could use it as a tool or a weapon. In Noah’s case, the part Mirage gave him was like a gauntlet that could act as a radio, a flashlight, and a small gun that could release energy blasts.

What Happened to Mirage?

While Mirage had unique abilities that none of the other Transformers had, he wasn’t remotely close to being the strongest Autobot. Nevertheless, that never stopped him from trying to help Noah and his friends in their quest to stop Scourge and the other Terrorcons from getting their hands on both pieces of the Transwarp Key. When Scourge got both pieces of the key and used it to activate a device that would have allowed the planet-eating entity called Unicron to get to Earth, Mirage agreed to be the one to back both Noah and Elena, who were tasked to input an emergency code that could stop the machine from activating.

Mirage, however, decided to be the one to distract Scourge so that Noah and Elena could get to the control panel and stop the machine from completely activating. After a valiant effort against the powerful Terrorcon, Mirage was simply overmatched. This allowed Scourge to get his hands on Noah, who tried his best to fight back with whatever he had at his disposal.

Scourge was about to kill Noah until Mirage took the hit for him. Mirage took several hits from the evil Cybertronian before he presumably died. Noah found in one of Mirage’s body parts that he had a radio to communicate with Kris. The younger Diaz tried his best to convince Noah to keep fighting, only for Noah to tell him that he couldn’t fight even if he wanted to.

That was when Mirage revealed that he was still alive, albeit barely. He told Noah that he had to be the one to take the wheel, as Mirage’s body parts started to move to Noah’s body to form a Cybertronian suit of armor. This suit allowed Noah to fight Scourge with Optimus, as they both gave the villain problems.

Is Mirage Still Alive?

The last time we saw Mirage was when he gave his body parts to Noah so that they could fight Scourge together. When he told Noah he had to take over the wheel, he was still seemingly alive despite taking several point-blank shots from Scourge. Of course, after giving his parts to Noah to serve as a battle suit, Mirage was never heard from again.

In that regard, Mirage likely isn’t dead because the suit he gave Noah wouldn’t have worked if he was totally down for the count already. After all, Cybertronians can function due to Energon, and this power dies out whenever a Cybertronian loses its spark. So, the fact that the suit was working enough means that there’s a good chance that Mirage is still alive, albeit dormant, within the suit that Noah used.

The fact that Mirage can give parts of himself to others makes him incredibly unique. This could also mean he is very hardy and durable even though he may not be the strongest Autobot. As such, there’s a good chance that we have yet to see the last of Mirage, whose consciousness may still be inside Noah’s battle suit.
