Does Bumblebee Die in ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’? Explained

When it comes to the Transformers movie franchise, the one character that has always stood out as a favorite among fans is Bumblebee because of his wacky and childish nature. Of course, the storyline of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts takes the spotlight away from Bee as it focuses more on other Transformers characters. Nevertheless, we know that Bumblebee doesn’t have the best kind of experience in Rise of the Beasts, especially because their enemy is entirely different from what they’ve faced in the past. So, does Bumblebee die in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts?
Bumblebee dies in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Scourge killed him during their first meeting, as Bee tried to save Optimus Prime from getting killed. Bee got himself killed instead of Prime, as Scourge exemplified him. However, thanks to the Energon-rich terrain of Peru, Bumblebee was revived.
Due to the massive popularity of Bumblebee as a beloved Transformers character, there is no way that the franchise would keep him dead permanently, as we all know that he has always been one of the characters that made this franchise as popular as it is today. In that regard, Bee did die in the movie. Thankfully, they found a way to revive him. Now, let’s look at what happened to Bumblebee in Rise of the Beasts.
What Happens to Bumblebee in Rise of the Beast?
When it comes to the Transformers movie franchise, arguably the biggest constant other than Optimus Prime is Bumblebee, who has become the poster boy of the entire Transformers film series as he has appeared in more Transformers movies than the leader of the Autobots. And that’s because Bee is the type of character that is so intriguing to many fans due to his childlike personality and kind of goofy behavior.
As such, Bumblebee has always been one of the Transformers characters that got people into movie theaters. But the thing about him in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is that the storyline has taken the spotlight away from him, especially considering that Bee has already gotten a good share of the spotlight in his standalone film released before Rise of the Beasts. And the storyline of Rise of the Beasts moves the spotlight to Mirage, a new Autobot that’s just as wacky and goofy as Bee.
Still, Bumblebee saw himself getting into the action quite early as the yellow Chevrolet Camaro joined the other Autobots in their quest to obtain the Transwarp Key, the only way for them to get off Earth and return to Cybertron. And that was when he and the other Autobots got entangled with the Terrorcons, the most powerful minions of the planet-eating entity Unicron.
The first meeting between the Autobots and the Terrorcons didn’t end well for the good guys. Scourge and the Terrorcons were much more powerful than the Autobots. After all, they possessed a fraction of Unicron’s power. As such, not even Optimus Prime could match Scourge’s power, as Bumblebee and the other Autobots struggled against Scourge’s companions.
Optimus saw that there was a huge gap between him and Scourge, which was why he was placed in a tough position wherein he was about to die at the hands of a powerful enemy that had killed numerous Primes in the past. As Scourge was set to kill Optimus, Bumblebee jumped in to take the evil robot’s attention away from Prime. Scourge made an example of Bee by killing him using a weapon that stopped all of the yellow Camaro’s vital functions.
After that encounter with Scourge, Bumblebee was a metal husk because he lost his spark. He was dead in the Transformers sense of the word. Luckily for him, Optimus and the others took his body after Airazor saved them from certain death at the hands of the Terrorcons.
This is the first time Bumblebee has ever died in the Transformers franchise, as he was always one of the main characters. And this was likely done to take the spotlight away from Bee and move it to Mirage, who rose up to take his spot as the Autobot that became close friends with a human being.
Does Bumblebee Return to Life?
Of course, we all knew that Bumblebee wouldn’t stay dead long. That’s because he has always been one of the most popular Transformers characters and is the poster boy of the film series even though he isn’t necessarily the leader of the Autobots. And because Rise of the Beasts serves as a reboot sequel to the entire Transformers franchise, we know that he was going to return to life.
The thing about the Transformers is that they are robots that don’t stay dead permanently unless their bodies are destroyed. In the past, we’ve seen Optimus and Megatron returning to life, meaning that Bee could return to life as long as his body was intact. And we know that Scourge didn’t rip him apart or destroy his body when he killed Bumblebee.
As such, Optimus carried Bumblebee’s body when they went to Peru. That was when they met the remnants of the Maximals that had been hiding on Earth for centuries and were far away from society because they were staying with an indigenous tribe of Peruvians. And the forests where the Maximals were staying were incredibly rich in energon, which was the life source of the Transformers of Cybertron.
However, Primal told Prime they couldn’t revive Bumblebee because the energy they could muster up wasn’t strong enough to use the Energon in the surrounding area to revive the fallen yellow Camaro. In that regard, they all but gave up in their efforts to revive Bumblebee, whose body was laid to rest on a rock in the Energon-rich environment.
The Terrorcons obtained the Transwarp Key, as Scourge used it to operate a machine that served as the gateway for Unicron to get to Earth. When Prime suggested destroying the device, Primus told him they shouldn’t do so because it had more energy than a supernova. And this was the clue pointing to the possibility that Bee would get revived, as Primal previously mentioned that they needed an energy source that could produce incredible amounts of energy.
While the Autobots and the Maximals were fighting the Terrorcons in their effort to try to stop the machine from calling forth Unicron, the machine gave out a surge of energy that activated the Energon all over the area, as the Energon flowed within Bumblebee.
When Optimus was about to lose to Scourge yet again, Bumblebee arrived to save the day and provide the much-needed backup that the Autobots and Maximals were so desperate for. He provided the spark that allowed the good guys to change the tide of the battle even though they were severely outnumbered by the Terrorcons and the reinforcements that Unicron sent.
The fact that Bumblebee was revived proves that the Transformers franchise knows how beloved of a character he is, as he has always been an icon in the Transformers films ever since he made his debut in the first Michael Bay Transformers movie.
As such, there’s also a good chance that Bumblebee will continue his role as one of the most important characters in the storyline, especially because Optimus Prime trusts him the most out of all of the different Autobots working with and under him.
