Ross Marquand Reignites Hopes for Steve Rogers’ MCU Comeback by Reviving Rumors of a Major Captain America Project
A few months ago, we reported a rumor about a specific Captain America project in development.
According to a well-known leaker, a limited series centered on Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers was being planned. The series would focus on Captain America’s journey to return the Infinity Stones to their rightful places in time after the events of the Time Heist.
Some fans speculated that this show could be connected to the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars. Those unhappy with Sam Wilson taking on the Captain America mantle have been calling for Chris Evans’ return. However, Endgame left few options for reintroducing the character, aside from a variant version.
This limited series could satisfy a vocal segment of the community and would make narrative sense, as it would explore events before Steve Rogers created the alternate timeline.
Since then, we hadn’t heard much about the show and assumed the rumor was largely unfounded. However, it seems we were mistaken. At Edmonton Expo 2024, Ross Marquand—who has portrayed several characters in the MCU, including Red Skull and Ultron—revealed that he pitched an intriguing story to the studio.
Marquand expressed his desire to see a miniseries focused on Captain America returning the Infinity Stones to their rightful places in time.
This doesn’t necessarily mean the show is in development; it simply indicates that it was pitched and discussed, supporting MyTimeToShineHello’s earlier insights.
Chris Evans recently returned to the MCU, but in a very different role—portraying the Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine, reprising his character from the original Fantastic Four films.
However, he recently dampened our hopes by stating that he doesn’t actively think about returning as Captain America, noting that it wouldn’t make much sense for the MCU to bring back the original Captain while trying to establish a new one.
