Rumors: ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ No Longer Features the Serpent Society

Share:

It has been more than four years since Chris Evans’ portrayal of Steve Rogers, the original Captain America, passed on his iconic shield to his friend and teammate Sam Wilson. The conclusion of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ provided Steve Rogers with a happy ending and paved the way for Anthony Mackie’s Falcon to step into the role of the next Captain America. However, in 2021’s ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,’ we witnessed Sam initially rejecting the shield. Eventually, he decided to embrace the mantle of Steve Rogers’ successor, especially when it became evident that the US government wouldn’t allow the shield to remain in a museum.

Shortly after the conclusion of ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,’ reports surfaced about the development of the fourth Captain America movie. Kevin Feige officially announced the film as ‘Captain America: New World Order’ at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con. However, the title underwent a change last year, becoming ‘Captain America: Brave New World.’

Following this development, a new set of photos emerged featuring King Cobra and the Serpent Society. The Serpent Society is an organization comprised of criminals and villains with a snake theme. Initiated by Sidewinder, it served as a spiritual successor to the Serpent Squad. The Society aimed to unite all the world’s snakes under one banner, offering them improved pay, benefits, and job security. Over the years, the group became embroiled in various scandals and frequently clashed with notable superheroes such as Captain America, Daredevil, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and others.

Let me clarify, the Serpent Society was never intended to be the main antagonist in the film. However, it appears that due to SAG-AFTRA strikes, reshoots, and multiple script revisions, their role has been entirely removed.

According to a prominent leaker and insider known as CanWeGetSomeToast on X, the action sequences featuring the Serpent Society were initially planned as the primary action pieces involving Captain America. It is suggested that Diamondback might still have a role in the revised version of the movie.

This development aligns with previous reports from last year indicating extensive reshoots and rewrites for ‘Brave New World.’ Originally, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ exchanged release dates with ‘Deadpool 3’ since the film was only halfway completed when the industry strike commenced. However, rumors later circulated that additional reshoots were underway, purportedly in response to less-than-satisfactory test screenings. More recently, emerging details suggest that the action filmed thus far fell short of expectations compared to previous entries in the series.

In response to these challenges, Marvel Studios enlisted Matthew Orton as a screenwriter for the reshoots, with another round scheduled for the spring-summer of 2024. Notably, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ will not hit theaters in 2024 as initially planned; its release has been postponed to February 14, 2025. Pending successful reshoots, the film is expected to adhere to this revised schedule.
