Marvel Studios has a hefty lineup of projects in the pipeline. The progress of these projects faced uncertainty amid the SAG-AFTRA strike, causing a halt in new developments throughout Hollywood. While writers have come to an agreement, the current status of the actors remains uncertain, with no resolution reached.
As a result of these impending changes, it seems that the release dates for ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ and ‘Deadpool 3’ will be swapped. ‘Brave New World’ is now set to hit theaters on May 3, 2024, while ‘Deadpool 3’ is likely to be released in November or December of the same year.
Filming for ‘Deadpool 3’ kicked off in May 2023, and despite Shawn Levy’s reassurances that the movie wouldn’t be heavily impacted by the strikes, it appears that some additional work is now on the agenda. This isn’t entirely surprising given the current state of the entertainment industry, and Marvel Studios has indeed faced some challenges in recent months. A stark reminder comes from the less-than-stellar reception of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ both among audiences and at the box office.
Adding to the mix, there’s news that ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is undergoing a major overhaul due to the original premise being deemed “boring.” Rumors also swirl around ‘Wonder Man,’ a project centered on Yahya Abdul-Mateen’s Simon Williams, possibly facing cancellation.
With ‘The Marvels’ slated for release in just a month, the projected box office numbers look bleak, especially considering it’s one of the most expensive projects Marvel Studios has ever undertaken. Clearly, amidst the actor strike, Marvel Studios finds itself in a bit of a crisis and may need a significant shift in direction.
