Satoru Gojo Finally Got Unsealed: Here’s How
Since he was introduced as one of the most important characters of Jujutsu Kaisen, Satoru Gojo was already quite overpowered. As the strongest Jujutsu sorcerer in the world, Gojo was basically unbeatable and would always change the tide of a battle with his presence. As such, throughout the earlier storyline of Jujutsu Kaisen, the bad guys often tried to find a way to negate Gojo’s presence using any kind of tactics that would render him unable to contribute to the fight, only for him to power his way through whatever the opponents try against him.
However, during one of the arcs in the manga, Kenjaku was finally able to take Gojo out of the equation. During the Shibuya Incident arc of the manga, Gojo was finally sealed in the Prison Realm. The most powerful sorcerer in the world was away for around a hundred manga chapters before he finally returned when he was most needed. So, with that said, let’s look at how Satoru Gojo got unsealed.
Why Was Gojo Sealed?
The storyline of Jujutsu Kaisen involved Kenjaku’s master plan of the Culling Game, which he believed could lead to the evolution of humanity as a whole. Of course, he needed to solve one big problem first—Satoru Gojo. That’s because Gojo was the most powerful Jujutsu sorcerer in the world and was unbeatable for all intents and purposes. So, as strong as Kenjaku is while possessing Geto’s body as his medium, he is still no match for Gojo in a straight-up fight.
In that regard, the best way for Kenjaku to take Gojo out of the equation was to find a way for him to basically make it impossible for the powerful sorcerer to interfere with his plan. That was why he decided to seal him in the Prison Realm. And this plan was the meat of the entire Shibuya Incident arc in the manga, as Kenjaku needed to find a way to seal Gojo as this was the only way for him to take him out of the equation.
The problem was that Kenjaku needed Gojo to stay still for an entire minute within a four-meter radius. Then again, due to the power of his Six Eyes cursed technique, Gojo cannot be contained for that long. The Six Eyes allow him to perceive time differently because his brain works much faster. As such, an average minute for the ordinary mind is equivalent to a few seconds for Gojo due to his six eyes’ power.
Kenjaku understood what Gojo’s power could do, so he stayed away from the world of the sorcerers for as long as he could. The trump card that Kenjaku had was the body he used as his medium as he understood that Geto was once Gojo’s best friend before he was killed a year before the events of the main Jujutsu Kaisen storyline.
During the Shibuya Incident arc, Geto could momentarily distract Gojo using his transfigured humans. He suddenly appeared in front of Gojo to immobilize him with shock. While Kenjaku possessed Geto’s body, the only thing Gojo saw was his best friend. As such, the usually composed Satoru Gojo was immobilized for a while due to his shock, and that was when the Prison Realm worked to seal Gojo and keep him out of the storyline for a while so that Kenjaku could put his plan into motion.
How Was Gojo Unsealed?
The fact that Gojo was sealed allowed Kenjaku’s plan to progress because he no longer had to deal with the strongest sorcerer in the world. Gojo was absent for over a hundred chapters in the manga, and fans wondered when he would return. After all, Gojo’s popularity demanded that he would return in the future to help even things out for the good guys.
In Chapter 221 of the manga, Hana uses her Jacob’s Ladder technique to release Gojo from the Prison Realm. However, Kenjaku had already thought of a plan that would have made it more difficult for Gojo to join up with his allies if ever someone released him.
Kenjaku set up the Prison Realm box to release Gojo deep under the ocean in a subduction zone if ever someone were to release him. As such, he had the bases covered by formulating a backup plan. Kenjaku hoped that Gojo getting released deep in the ocean would kill him or, at the very least, slow him down.
Even if getting released deep in the ocean wouldn’t kill Gojo (because he is THAT powerful), Kenjaku believed that this would slow the powerful sorcerer down well enough for him to attempt to kill him before he could meet up with his allies and foil his plans.
Due to his immense strength, Gojo was unharmed after he escaped the Prison Realm. Not even the pressure of the ocean was enough to kill him. As such, he immediately tried to kill Kenjaku when the villain confronted him.
Sukuna, however, intervened in what could have been the battle that would have killed Kenjaku. After a brief clash between the world’s two most powerful cursed energy users, Sukuna postponed his fight with Gojo a month later due to certain factors. As such, the focus of Gojo’s escape was not that he escaped. Instead, it was the fact that his escape would set up an epic battle between the strongest sorcerer in the world and the King of Curses.
We all know how powerful Gojo is and how there has been no one close to killing him during the events of Jujutsu Kaisen. The fact that he is overpowered is the reason why Kenjaku decided to seal him instead of trying to kill him, as he understood that nothing he could ever do would be enough to kill Satoru Gojo. But Sukuna is an entirely different entity as he is a legendary figure dubbed the King of Curses and was always the measure of a cursed spirit’s strength.
So, with that said, Gojo’s escape allowed him to confront Kenjaku and Sukuna, who he has to fight if he wants to rid the world of the most powerful cursed spirit of all time. During the earlier part of the story, Yuji Itadori asked Gojo if he could defeat a full-power Sukuna, only for the blindfolded sorcerer to tell him that he would win that fight. As such, we are set to see whether or not Gojo was not bluffing when he said he would win in a fight against a full-power Sukuna.
