‘Shazam!’ Actor Drops Hints About Upcoming DCU Role
The 2019 release ‘Shazam!’ garnered acclaim for its upbeat approach to the superhero genre, centering around the character of the same name. Zachary Levi portrayed the adult Shazam, while Asher Angel depicted the teenage Billy Batson.
Recently, Asher hinted at plans for a third movie, but with the underperformance of ‘Shazam! 2’ and the overhaul of the DCEU into the newly minted DCU, the future is uncertain.
It appears that Asher has landed a different role altogether in this fresh cinematic universe, as the actor recently shared a Nightwing gif on his social media. Additionally, James Gunn has hinted at the inclusion of this superhero in his upcoming franchise, with Asher often being suggested by fans for the role.
It’s uncertain whether Nightwing will be featured in the upcoming live-action ‘Teen Titans’ movie or if his appearance is imminent. Regardless, Asher is just one of several actors rumored to transition from the DCEU to the DCU. There’s speculation that Jason Momoa may leave the role of Aquaman to portray Lobo, while Xolo Maridueña is expected to return as Blue Beetle, as per Gunn’s remarks.
The entire cast of ‘Peacemaker’ is slated to return, with the second season tying into the DCU canon, along with elements of ‘Suicide Squad.’
