Spider-Man Actor Jacob Batalon Shares Thoughts on Ned Leeds Becoming MCU’s Hobgoblin

The MCU has a lineup of upcoming movies, despite recent bumps in the road for Marvel Studios. Discussions about reducing the number of projects have arisen, reflecting fan fatigue with lower-quality content. However, Spider-Man remains a consistent draw, making it the most profitable Marvel franchise regardless of the medium.

Several months ago, ‘Spider-Man 4’ was confirmed to be in active development. While details are scarce, a few cast members have been confirmed.

Tom Holland recently confirmed that he’s committed to returning as the web-slinger in the MCU, acknowledging the franchise as the foundation of his career. He also mentioned having more creative input now and emphasized the importance of preserving the legacy established with ‘No Way Home.’

While Zendaya’s return as MJ was confirmed, the actress herself hasn’t commented on it. However, Jacob Batalon’s involvement remains uncertain. In an interview with CBR, he revealed that he’s unaware of any plans involving his character in the upcoming movie. Additionally, he addressed speculation about his character becoming Hobgoblin.

Honestly, I’m not sure. Again, we may have talked about things, for sure, but I don’t know if it would’ve really led to anything serious about being a villain, or anything like that.

Jacob reiterated that he remains uncertain about his involvement in the upcoming movie.

I’m open to anything, and I think we all are open to anything. Unless you’re like a superhero, like big time, one of the main ones they’re trying to make movies about, you don’t really know what’s going to happen. In the industry, people don’t want to hope to wish. So, I would hopefully [return]. I’m down for anything. I would love to be a part of something special again. But also at the same time, I understand it’s a business, and people may not want that thing anymore, so I’m just being more realistic than anything else.

The script for ‘Spider-Man 4’ is still in progress, with production targeting a late 2024 start. This suggests that the movie may not hit screens until 2026 or later.
