Tom Holland Discusses His Future as Spider-Man: “We Have a Legacy to Protect”

Tom Holland has become an MCU veteran, having starred in three standalone Spider-Man movies and made appearances in other projects, making him an integral part of the MCU’s future.
The fourth Spider-Man movie is currently in development, with various intriguing rumors circulating. Several months ago, Holland made noteworthy remarks about his future as the iconic character. Initially, he expressed hesitancy about returning if the story didn’t meet his expectations. However, he later indicated a willingness to continue portraying Spider-Man, albeit with a desire to uphold the character’s legacy.
Holland delved into Spider-Man’s future during his most recent interview with Deadline.
The simple answer is that I’ll always want to do Spider-Man films. I owe my life and career to Spider-Man. So the simple answer is yes. I’ll always want to do more. We have the best in the business working toward whatever the story might be. But until we’ve cracked it, we have a legacy to protect. The third movie was so special in so many ways that we need to make sure we do the right thing.
Lately, reports have indicated a disagreement about the theme of the upcoming installment. Feige aimed for a more grounded and street-level approach, while Watts, who is no longer directing, leaned towards a “multiversal” direction, following existing franchise themes.
Holland disclosed that this is his first time being directly involved in the creative process.
This is the first time in this process that I’ve been part of the creative so early. It’s just a process where I’m watching and learning. It’s just a really fun stage for me. Like I said, everyone wants it to happen. But we want to make sure we’re not overdoing the same things. We’re figuring it out. We’re at that stage where it’s post-strike, so we’re waiting for those scripts to come in. We’re giving the writers the time they need to hit the ground running. But I’ve got a few projects that I’m really excited about and scripts are coming in now and they’re great. I read something the other day that absolutely blew my mind.
Recent rumors suggest that Sam Raimi is in discussions to direct the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4.’ While some fans are thrilled by this news, others are concerned about what Raimi might bring to the established franchise.
It has also been confirmed that Zendaya will return to her role alongside Holland. Do you have any thoughts to share? Feel free to comment below!
