‘Spider-Man 4’: What We Know About the Plot, Cast, and Release Date
The MCU has a lineup of upcoming movies, despite Marvel Studios facing challenges with recent projects. There’s been discussion about reducing the number of releases, as fans are growing weary of lower-quality shows and movies. However, Spider-Man continues to be a major draw, consistently delivering profits for Marvel, regardless of the medium.
In the MCU specifically, Spider-Man has had three standalone movies, with a fourth one in the works. This was confirmed months ago by producer Amy Pascal. The sequel’s development was paused during the WGA Strike but has since resumed. In this guide, we’ll summarize everything we know about the upcoming Spider-Man movie.
The plot could either explore the Multiverse or take a street-level direction
‘Spider-Man 3’ introduced the Multiversal theme that the rest of the franchise is now exploring, and although the movie was well-received, there’s been speculation that Feige has different plans for the upcoming installment.
None of this has been confirmed, so it’s important to remember that we’re discussing rumors. However, reportedly, Jon Watts, Holland, and Feige have discussed whether the story will continue with the Multiversal theme or take a street-level approach, possibly incorporating some of the most iconic street-level heroes in the franchise, especially with Kingpin and Daredevil joining the fold.
When it was officially announced that Jon Watts had left the director’s chair, many insiders interpreted it as a sign that Feige had won the argument, signaling that the upcoming movie would likely take a street-level approach.
Holland also recently confirmed that he has more creative freedom and input as they consider various scripts. While the director is still unknown, several candidates have been considered in the past, including Watts, Drew Goddard, and Justin Lin. However, all of them have since moved on to different projects, making it unlikely that they will helm the franchise.
The latest update indicates that Sam Raimi will direct ‘Spider-Man 4.’
What information do we have about the cast?
Tom Holland is set to return as Peter Parker. About a year ago, he mentioned that he would only return for the sequel if the story was compelling enough, but recently, he expressed his commitment to the MCU, citing it as the foundation of his career.
Zendaya will also reprise her role as MJ, despite her character not recalling Peter Parker. Jacob Batalon recently stated that he’s uncertain if the studio has plans for his character in the sequel. Rumors suggest that Matt Murdock’s Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin may make appearances, sparking speculation about the “street-level” direction of the film.
Recent reports have also suggested that Sydney Sweeney has been cast as Black Cat in the MCU. Additionally, it’s been mentioned that this movie will mark the first live-action appearance of Miles Morales.
The movie currently lacks a confirmed release date
The script for ‘Spider-Man 4’ is still incomplete, but the movie is targeting a late 2024 start for production. This suggests that we may not see the movie until 2026 or even later.
