A new trailer for the upcoming series Spider-Noir has been released, giving a first look at Nicolas Cage in a very different kind of superhero role. The footage comes from Prime Video and was first shown at the pop culture event CCXPMX26.

In this series, Cage plays Ben Reilly, a tired private detective living in 1930s New York. He is not doing well and is trying to move on from his past. That past includes being the city’s only superhero. As the trailer shows, he is pulled back into that life when his powers return and trouble finds him again.

The main threat in the story comes from a crime boss played by Brendan Gleeson. The character appears to be based on Silvermane from the comics. The trailer focuses on their conflict, setting up a darker and more grounded tone than most superhero shows.

This project is based on the comic Spider-Man Noir, but it stands on its own. It is not connected to the Sony Spider-Man films or the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse universe.

One interesting detail is how the show will be released. Viewers will be able to watch it in two versions, either in “Authentic Black & White” or “True-Hue Full Color.” This idea matches the original comic style, which had a very muted and noir look.

The cast also includes Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, and Jack Huston.

The series will premiere on May 27, and all episodes will be released at once for binge watching.

According to production details shared by Sony Pictures Television, the show was made for both MGM+ and Prime Video. The first two episodes were directed by Harry Bradbeer. The series was developed by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, working with the team behind Spider-Verse, including Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal.
