‘Spy x Family’ Fillers: Are There Any Fillers at All?
SPY×FAMILY is a Japanese manga and anime series written and illustrated by Tatsuya Endo. The series has been ongoing since March 25, 2019, and 12 manga volumes have been published. Due to its enormous popularity, the manga has also been adapted into an anime series, which premiered on April 9, 2022, and is currently in its second season. An anime film is also planned.
As fans will know, long-running anime series, especially manga adaptations, tend to add what are known as filler episodes or arcs during their initial run. Filler episodes were popular throughout the 90s and early 00s, but they’ve become a relic since then. While the phenomenon is rare in modern anime series, we have decided to tell you whether there are any filler episodes in SPY×FAMILY.
Are there any filler episodes in SPY×FAMILY?
As previously said, fillers are not common in contemporary anime. They were prevalent in the 1990s and early 2000s when almost every series contained filler material, and some anime adaptations even altered the manga entirely and included a non-canonical filler conclusion. While some fillers have been canonized retroactively, the majority were not (Naruto and Bleach have some content that was initially non-canon but later canonized).
As far as SPY×FAMILY is concerned, we can confirm that the series has 0 no canon episodes, i.e., no filler content at all. This is not uncommon for contemporary anime series, and in that aspect, we can simply confirm that SPY×FAMILY is in line with modern trends. This doesn’t mean that the anime has no original content, but that content is limited to some scenes or dialogues and nothing else.
This doesn’t mean that the future seasons of SPY×FAMILY won’t include any filler episodes, but as of the time of writing, there is no filler content there.
Is the Spy × Family Code: White movie going to be canon?
Regarding the future of the series, we know that SPY×FAMILY is getting a movie – Spy × Family Code: White – in late 2023. A lot of fans are wondering whether the movie is going to be canon or not, so we decided to comment on that as well.
And while we won’t know until the movie is out, it seems so far that Spy × Family Code: White won’t be a canon story. We know that it is an original story written by Endo, so the movie won’t be adapting any manga volumes or chapters, which usually means that it is not canon. Whether Endo plans to retcon it into the canon is known at this moment.
