Steven Knight Reveals Insights into the Script of Upcoming ‘New Jedi Order’

Star Wars has a variety of projects in development right now, ranging from Mangold’s historical Star Wars film to Waititi’s mysterious project that he hinted might upset fans. Somewhere in between lies a new movie centered around Rey titled ‘Star Wars: Episode X,’ with the working title ‘New Jedi Order,’ which hints at its content.
This new Star Wars movie was unveiled at Star Wars Celebration 2023, focusing on Rey’s journey following ‘The Rise of Skywalker.’ Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the film explores Rey’s efforts to reconstruct the Jedi Order. Initially, Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were slated to write, but Steven Knight took over. The story unfolds 15 years after ‘Rise of Skywalker,’ delving into the aftermath of war and the state of the galaxy with the Jedi in disarray. Kathleen Kennedy revealed that Rey is committed to fulfilling her promise to Luke by rebuilding the Jedi Order, drawing from the books.
Steven Knight recently spoke with NME about his latest projects, including ‘This Town,’ the ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie, and ‘New Jedi Order.’ He offered an update on the script, stating that things are progressing smoothly and he’s immersing himself in the Star Wars universe. He had nothing but praise for his current collaborators.
I can tell you I’m doing it! It’s going well, yes. But yes, I am getting [into] that universe and it’s a wonderful universe. I love it. And it’s good people. Again, when you get to that level, you find that the people who are there are there for a reason.
Recently, Ridley expressed optimism about the unfolding storyline and expressed her desire for Boyega’s Finn to return as a Jedi. She noted feeling a sense of ownership over the current film, feeling more equipped to handle the intricacies of the universe, fan expectations, and the overall anticipation surrounding such a significant movie.
I suppose I feel more like I’m owning it. I suppose I owned it the first time. Basically, I’m an adult now. I certainly did not feel like an adult at the time. Obviously, personally, things have changed, and professionally, I’ve had lots of other experiences, and so I definitely feel like it’s a different thing this time.
