The Lord of the Rings fans, rejoice! Amazon Prime Video just revealed the official teaser trailer for the anticipated TV series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power! Without any further ado, make sure to check it out down below:

An epic high-fantasy JRR Tolkien’s novel The Lord of the Rings was originally published in 1954 (The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers) and in 1955 (The Return of the King), respectively. Since then, Tolkien’s fantasy world set in the Middle-earth became a cultural and global phenomenon, with millions of fans around the world, and the popularity didn’t fade away to this day.

Tolkien’s world was brought to the big screen with The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson. Three movies were released in 2001 (The Fellowship of the Ring), 2002 (The Two Towers), and 2003 (Return of the King), and each of them was widely praised by both critics and the audience. The whole trilogy grossed $2.991 billion in total, and it won 17 Oscars, out of which only Return of the King won 11 of them, including Best Picture.

In 2012, Jackson returned to direct The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which kicked off a prequel trilogy of the Lord of the Rings saga. Two sequels, The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies, were released in 2013 and 2014, respectively. Interestingly, The Lord of the Rings trilogy was based on the trilogy of books, but The Hobbit trilogy was based on only one book. Although it wasn’t as successful as the original trilogy, the Hobbit trilogy was still a box-office success.

With books, original movie trilogy, and prequel movie trilogy now available for us to enjoy until the end of our days, Amazon Prime Video is bringing us something new to look forward to. A TV show set in the second age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before the events of the original movie trilogy. This is set to be the most expensive TV series ever made, and Prime Video has a lot of confidence in this ambitious project.

The Lord of the Rings: The RIngs of Power is set to premiere on September 2, 2022, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. The second season is already in development, and the initial plans are to film at least five seasons in total. You can check the official synopsis of the series down below:

“Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.” — The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, official synopsis
