And while Tokyo Revengers might initially look like a typical yanki series, the whole concept is popular for one good reason: the story has a lot of depth. It can be difficult to follow occasionally, but it is worth it. One of the aspects that makes the series so great is the interpersonal relationships between the characters, and in this article, we will discuss one such relationship. The relationship in question will be the one between Hakkai and Angry, two Toman members who’ve proven themselves to be quite close during the Tenjiku Arc. In this article, we are going to explain the true nature of their relationship to you.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Hakkai and Angry are two secondary characters from Tokyo Revengers, who are mainly known as Toman members, although they were members of other gangs in different timelines.
  • Although they are close friends and they fought against Tenjiku together, they are not in love with each other and are exclusively friends in the series.
  • As far as it is known, Angry is heterosexual, while it has been implied that Hakkai is indeed bisexual or gay, and that he has a crush on Mityusa in the series.

Hakkai and Angry are simply good friends who belong to the same gang

Hakkai Shiba is the vice-captain of the Toman’s second division and a former member of the 10th generation of the Black Dragon. He is the brother of Taiju, the former leader of the Black Dragon who protected Yuzuha from the former’s violent acts after her mother died.

He decided to leave Tokyo Manji and join his brother’s gang in order to help Takemichi, whom Taiju had brutally beaten. On Christmas Eve, he planned to murder his brother in the church where he was going to pray to end all the suffering. However, Takemichi appeared to prevent it.

After that, with Takemichi’s encouragement, he decided to challenge his brother with the help of the aforementioned. Although he was cornered to the point of defeat, he was able to half-win with the appearance of Mikey and Draken. In 2008, he became vice-captain of Tokyo Manji Kai’s second division.

Soya Kawata, also known as Angry, is the vice-captain of the fourth division and Nahoya’s twin brother. Because he was too nice, he couldn’t really hit people and used to be a crybaby. However, when he cries, his personality completely changes to the point of becoming a demon. In the battle against Tenjiku, he was taking care of his brother in the hospital but took his place in the fight.

He joined Hakkai during the battle and fought against the Haitani brothers. However, although he could not move because his right arm and his left leg were broken, he cried when he saw Hakkai being attacked. At that moment, he turned into the “blue demon,” stood up, walked even though his left leg was broken, and punched Rindo. In the new timeline, Soya and Nahoya run a ramen shop.

As you can see, Hakkai and Angry do share some common points, and their fight against the Haitani brothers – the determination and strength with which they fought together – might have misled some fans into thinking that they are more than just friends, but in this case – they are mistaken. Angry and Hakkai are not a couple, nor are they in love with each other.

They are close as members of the same gang, and the Haitani brothers insulted people very dear to them, which resulted in such a reaction on their side. Ultimately, they are just friends and there is nothing else to tell here. In fact, Angry is most likely not even gay, but… Hakkai could be, just not for Angry. Keep reading to find out what we are talking about.

Is Hakkai gay in Tokyo Revengers?

Well, this is an interesting question, especially now that we have explained everything. While we can confirm that Hakkai and Angry are not a couple, it still seems like the author intended for Hakkai to be at least bisexual, if not fully gay, in the series; he just isn’t in love with Angry, as far as we could deduce from the series. So, who is it then?

Well, based on all the data and evidence we have, Hakkai is in love with Takashi Mitsuya. Hakkai himself works as a model, and that itself doesn’t have to mean anything, but Mitsuya is one of the most likely gay characters in Tokyo Revengers, save for Inupi and Koko, who are openly a couple in the series. Mitsuya’s outing has not been so direct, but based on everything we’ve seen in the series, it is more than likely that he is indeed gay.

We do not know the nature of his relationship with Hakkai, but based on the fact that both of them are working as models in the peaceful timeline, as well as the fact that Hakkai was written in such a way that it is quite obvious that he has a crush on Mitsuya, we can assume that they are, as the series stated, “unfortunately close,” which is probably a euphemism for them being a couple in the series, and in all honesty, it would be a beautiful conclusion to their story which would add yet another layer to the already deep story of Tokyo Revengers.
