Tom Holland Teases ‘Really Bright’ Future For Spider-Man In The MCU, And Fans Are Already Guessing What’s Next
Spider-Man’s next chapter is almost here, with ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ set to swing into theaters on July 31, 2026, marking Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as Peter Parker. The film is the next installment in Holland’s franchise and is scheduled to hit theaters on that date. The story picks up years after the cliffhanger ending of ‘No Way Home,’ with Peter rebuilding his life as a full time hero in a city that no longer remembers who he is.
Anticipation has only grown since the film’s full trailer dropped. That trailer reportedly made history by crossing one billion views shortly after its release. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie also brings back Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned, while welcoming Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher into Peter’s orbit alongside newcomers Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas. Holland is set to reprise his leading role as the film mixes returning favorites with several major new additions.
With the release closing in fast, Holland has used the press cycle to speak more openly than usual about where Spider-Man goes from here inside the MCU. He was asked directly about the character’s future and gave an upbeat, if cagey, answer. “All I can say is that the future of Spider-Man is really bright and we have plans to introduce really exciting new characters,” he said. “How will they do that? We don’t know yet, but that’s how it will be and it will be awesome.”
This is not the first time Holland has hinted at who those new characters might be. Speaking to Empire for the film’s cover story, he named Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Woman as possibilities for whoever eventually takes on the mantle, saying “I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter.” He has also pointed to what Robert Downey Jr. did for him when he first stepped into the franchise as a kind of blueprint for passing the torch.
That kind of handoff may still be a ways off, since Sony is currently finishing Miles Morales’ own trilogy in the animated Spider-Verse franchise, which is reportedly why the character hasn’t yet appeared in live action. Fans have already started speculating about what a live action crossover could look like once that story wraps. Reactions to Holland’s comments about a successor have been mixed, with plenty of fans debating exactly how and when someone new might be introduced.
For now, Holland is keeping things vague, framing Spider-Man’s next era as something still being figured out rather than locked into a release calendar. With ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ just weeks away, audiences will have to wait and see how much of that promised new chapter actually makes it to screen.
So who do you think Tom Holland is teasing when he talks about exciting new Spider-Man characters, and would you want him sticking around long enough to help bring them into the MCU himself?
